Video shows terrifying moment plane bounces along London runway during intense storm

An American Airlines plane bounced along a London runway on Wednesday as it battled strong gusts that nearly sent it back into the sky.

Heart-pounding video shows the Boeing 777 swaying from left to right just a few hundred feet above the pavement of London’s Heathrow Airport as it attempts to land at 11:45 a.m. following a seemingly confident and effortless descent.

The wobbly nose of the plane then straightened to level with its body before bouncing straight into the air again, footage shared by the Big Jet TV show.

Somehow, the pilot was able to wrestle the huge plane back to the ground for a safe landing.

The The 308-seat plane had been battling strong crosswinds and thick fog brought by Storm Gerrit, a supercell thunderstorm that caused widespread flooding, ripped off roofs and killed several people across the United Kingdom.

Despite flying through strong winds — which reached 80 mph in some areas — the American Airlines plane was only 20 minutes late arriving at Europe’s largest airport, according to FlightAware data.

It had traveled 6,000 miles and nearly 11 hours from California when it encountered terrifying turbulence.

No injuries related to the terrifying landing were reported.

However, Storm Gerrit would later force Heathrow to cancel 18 flights due to air traffic control restrictions on domestic routes. Flights to European cities such as Barcelona and Berlin were also affected.

The storm also caused widespread disruption to train services several hundred miles north in Scotland, where journeys on some routes were suspended until officers could carry out a full inspection of the network. A tree fell and crushed the driver’s cabin of one train, but no one was injured.
