BOSTON – Flood Watches are in effect for millions of people in New England from Connecticut and Rhode Island through Boston and into Maine as coastal storms develop and bring more heavy rain to the region through at least the first part of this new work week.
Commuters from Philadelphia to New York City along the I-95 corridor in the Northeast faced a tough time on the road Monday morning and afternoon.
This latest rainfall comes days after Hurricane Lee hit the region and severe flooding in Leominster, Massachusetts last week prompted a Flash Flood Emergency.
The National Weather Service in Boston said 5-8 inches of rain fell from a tropical system and washed away roads and flooded homes and businesses.
This renewed threat is not as pronounced as last week, but there is the potential for more flooding as the ground is already very saturated.

Lower rainfall totals are expected closer to the New York City metro area where people in the Big Apple could see less than half an inch. However, the further east and north you go, the higher the amount of rain.
In general, New England will likely see a few inches of rain, but higher totals of up to 3 inches are possible.
Higher amounts of rain could fall across Rhode Island, eastern Massachusetts and along the New England coast into Maine.

Several storm systems have dumped water on the region, and some areas have seen large excesses in rainfall so far this year.
Hartford, Connecticut, for example, ran more than 10 inches above average this year.
Boston was not far behind with an excess of 8 inches. Elsewhere in New England, rainfall totals ran about 7-8 inches above average.

The National Weather Service has placed millions of people in New England under a Flood Watch that will remain in effect until at least Tuesday morning.
The entire state of Rhode Island is under a Flood Watch, as well as parts of Connecticut and central and eastern Massachusetts, including Boston.
Most of New Hampshire and Maine are also under a Flood Watch as the region braces for heavy rain that will continue throughout the day and could increase in intensity.
