His team confirmed the news in a press release, noting that Williams’ illness had “brought significant obstacles” to his life.

In a stunning turn of events, Williams’ team confirmed in a press release that the former talk show host was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

FTD is a disorder that affects behavior and cognitive function, while aphasia affects language and communication skills. Williams’ condition is very similar to Hollywood star Bruce Willis, who was diagnosed with dementia last year after first being diagnosed with aphasia in 2022.

The press release reads, “Over the past few years, questions have been raised at times about Wendy’s ability to process information, and many have speculated about Wendy’s condition, especially when she began to lose her words, acting erratically at times- certain times, and have difficulty understanding financial transactions.”

The press release continued, “The decision to share this news was difficult and was made after careful consideration, not only to support understanding and compassion for Wendy but to raise awareness of aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar conditions. .”

In their statement, Williams’ team stated that their goal to raise awareness is due to the fact that many people diagnosed with dementia and aphasia tend to face stigma, especially when they begin to show specific changes in their behavior and personality.

“Unfortunately, many individuals diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia face stigma and misunderstanding, especially when they begin to show behavioral changes but have not yet received a diagnosis,” they added.

In the midst of production on her upcoming documentary, “Where Is Wendy Williams?”, the Williams family has broken their silence on her health issues and court-ordered care. They claim that the system is “broken” because it has widely restricted their access to him and seems to have only worsened his health.

“How did she go from the aunt or sister that we love and are healthy for a minute to this person who is in and out of the hospital?” Williams’ sister, Wanda Finnie, said during an interview with People magazine.

Finnie continued, “How is that system better than a system that can be implemented by families? I do not know. I know that the system is broken. I hope that at some point, Wendy becomes strong enough where she can speak for herself.”

The documentary’s executive producer, Mark Ford, also slammed the care, insinuating that Williams was not getting the care she needed. He stated that when he met the former talk show host’s family, he knew they were “good people” which made him wonder why they were kept from being a part of his life.

“Just because you’re under care doesn’t mean you’re getting 24/7 care,” Ford said. “When we got to know Wendy’s family, it was clear to us that this was a good family, and the question remained in our minds: Why couldn’t that family be a part of Wendy’s life? Why can’t the family serve as his guardian? I still don’t have the full answer.”

Williams’ sister stated, regarding her care, “All I know is that Wendy and her team went into the courtroom one way, and they came out, and the family was completely excluded.”

Finnie also emphasized that despite all the struggles, they still hope for the best for Williams, adding, “There’s no one in this family who doesn’t want the same thing for Wendy, and that’s her health.”
