While fans of HBO’s “Westworld” may still be in disbelief over the sudden cancellation of the show, however, some good news seems to be coming for the cast.
After a long run of four seasons, actors and viewers alike got the bad news that the series would be canceled shortly before the fifth season. Now there might be some good information reaching everyone that might make the pain of leaving their plans a little easier.
“Westworld” Cast To Be Paid Regardless Of Shutdown By HBO

Creators of the dystopian sci-fi series Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy had campaigned to add another chapter but instead received news that the door had been closed on production.
The only upside may be that the main cast will get paid even if season five will not be produced. The payment comes as the lead actors renegotiated their deals before filming season 4, which was delayed due to the pandemic, and they have a pay-or-play deal for the season.
The deal is not unusual because the big chains pay up front to get their core members – usually big names in the industry – to avoid pressure to sign new contracts before deciding on renewals.
The main cast members, Thandiwe Newton, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, and Ed Harris, received salary increases after season 2 to approximately $250,000 per episode, except for Aaron Paul, who joined in season 3.
The amount owed for the canceled season is believed to be between ten and $15 million, which is a pittance compared to the show’s projected budget of $100 million. Filming each episode means $10 million, which means $80 million if HBO continues production for a fifth season.

Obviously, the network wants to spend less than that, especially after critically analyzing the number of views along with the cost. Ratings for the show are said to have dropped steadily over the past two seasons. Regardless of the improvement of the creative plot, fans have become increasingly vocal about the storyline, which has become too dense and difficult to follow.
The Blast reports that the hit show managed to earn major awards such as three Emmy nominations and fifty-four Primetime Emmy Awards before its cancellation. Rumor has it that the boot is a way for Warner Bros. Discovery and its CEO cut costs, despite insiders claiming it was illegal. The network expressed its gratitude to the cast and crew in a statement that read:
“For the past four seasons, Lisa and [Jonathan] has taken the audience on a mind-boggling adventure, raising the bar at every step. We are extremely grateful to them, their incredibly talented cast, producers, crew, and all of our partners at Kilter Films, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television. It is a pleasure to join them on this journey.”
Hopefully, there could be a continuation of the sci-fi series like a similar series, “Deadwood,” which was canceled in 2006 to the fury of fans, which led to a comeback as a movie.

“Westworld” Set Burns From Famous Forest Fire
In 2018, The Blast shared that officials from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area revealed that sets used for HBO’s Westworld and other Western-themed tv shows caught fire during the California Wildfires.
No photos were taken because the area known as the “West World” was inaccessible. This location was built in the 1950s by Paramount Pictures and served as the set for such iconic classics as “The Cisco Kid,” “Jane Seymour’s “Dr. Quinn, and Medicine Woman,” among others.
