Gilbert Arenas is an American former professional basketball player. He was born out of wedlock to his parents, Gilbert Sr. and Mary Robinson. The couple’s relationship did not go as expected, just as they believed the birth of their son would mark a new beginning in their lives. His parents divorced when he was six months old.
Gilbert then moved with his mother to his grandparents’ house in Florida. Then, when he was three years old, his father took him to live with him, changing his life drastically. Gilbert Arenas played for four different NBA clubs over the course of a decade, winning several trophies and awards. He was in the prime of his career with the Washington Wizards, averaging more than 20.0 points per game in several seasons.
Gilbert received several individual honors throughout his NBA career, including MVP and a three-time All-Star, but he never won the court. Gilbert Arenas was born on January 6, 1982, in Tampa, Florida, to Gilbert Arenas Sr. and his girlfriend Mary Robinson. Gilbert Sr., who is from Tampa, met Mary while studying at the University of Miami. They fell in love soon after, and Gilbert was born when Mary was still a teenager. Gilbert grew up in Miami with his mother and family until he was three when his father was still in college and unemployed. Gilbert Sr. eventually gained custody of his son when Mary was unable to care for him due to drug use.
Gilbert’s life changes drastically when he moves in with his father. Gilbert Sr. was an athlete who participated in baseball and football in college. As a result, he instilled the same determination in his son. Gilbert Jr., on the other hand, is more interested in basketball than any other sport. When his father moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career a few years later, he took his son with him. Gilbert played basketball for his high school squad at Ulysses S. Grant High School in California.
Gilbert Arenas wanted to play in the NBA when he was twelve years old. Knowing his son’s ambition, his father took the time to develop his talent and accompanied him to the academy to practice the game. Gilbert Only Met His Mother Once, When He Was 20 Years Old
As previously reported, the former basketball star divorced his mother when he was three years old and was raised alone by his father. He often wished that his mother would appear as a child, but his mother never did. Mary Robinson tracked down her son nearly eighteen years later when he was in Miami for a game for the Golden State Warriors in his second NBA season.
Gilbert got to see him after the match, but he was wary at first because he didn’t know who he was. However, after meeting her, he realizes she is his biological mother but it is unclear how he feels. After their discussion, he gave her her phone number, but she never called him. Mary Robinson died on March 13, 2010, at the age of 46, never to see her son again.
