Normand was born in the city of New Orleans. He grew up in a black community with his older brother. Normand claims his father bought an abandoned house on Esplanade Avenue in the French Quarter. Because his father had a difficult background, he always wanted to achieve something for himself, hence he bought the house at the lowest price, he claimed. He said that his father was a grumpy man because he had a strange upbringing and always tried to give it to him, but it was hard for him, so he took it out on whoever he could.

He believes it would be too embarrassing for them to say, “You’re a creative person, you do what you do, even if we don’t like the joke.” He remembers producing films in film school. In the end, he claimed he created a film that his mother didn’t like, which was uncomfortable. However, he believes they are OK with his humor.

Normand had a 12-year relationship with an ex-girlfriend. They were high school sweethearts. They were both artists who moved to New York together. Normand is married to fellow comedian Mae Planert, with whom he previously had an affair. They got engaged on Martha’s Vineyard in 2021 and married the following November in a private ceremony in New Orleans. They still don’t have children.
