American Idol returns with a new season this week, welcoming new talent to the stage. Singers from New Orleans, Las Vegas and Nashville will appear in the premiere episode.
The synopsis for the first episode is as follows:
“Guided by celebrity judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, fans go on a nationwide hunt to uncover the next singing miracle in New Orleans, Las Vegas and Nashville.”
The season debut will air on ABC on Sunday, February 19, at 8pm ET.
Marybeth Byrd’s experience on The Voice was examined before her audition on American Idol.
Marybeth Byrd, aspiring American Idol contestant, has already been on television and participated in another singing reality program. He was one of the candidates on NBC’s The Voice season 17 in 2019 when he made it to the Top 8 in John Legend’s team. At her blind audition, she sang Angel from Montgomery and turned all four chairs, but she ended up choosing to join the Legend squad.
The Top 13 were asked to donate a song to someone who had influenced them throughout the program, and the American Idol season 21 singer went on to dedicate a song to her late grandfather, who died the day before her blind audition. He revealed on the show that the song he chose, Go Rest High on that Mountain, was a song he and his grandfather used to perform together. Although he was dealing with his loss, his coach urged him to incorporate it into his performance, which he did.
He states:
“I can’t think of a better way to honor his memory than to carry out his wishes since I was born. On Monday, I knew he had the greatest seat in the house.”
He went on to say:
“I wouldn’t be on The Voice if he hadn’t shown his passion for music. It’s hard to lose someone who was such a bright light.”
The judges praised her performance, and Blake Shelton told her that it reminded her of her late father and that he understood exactly how she felt trying to get through it. He later said that he sometimes can’t listen to the same music because it’s so annoying. John Legend said that by revealing his grief, he allowed the country to see the aspects of himself that made him who he was, and that his grandfather inspired him to become a singer and artist.

The future American Idol contestant is now 21 years old and a virtual student at Arkansas State University. He received the Kansas Country Music Awards Young Artist of the Year award in 2021.
