Hollywood veteran Whoopi Goldberg is responding to Meghan Markle’s claims that she was objectified while starring as a briefcase girl on NBC’s money game show “Deal or No Deal.”
The Duchess of Sussex recently claimed that the show values her for “beauty” and not “brains,” adding that she doesn’t like being “forced to be all looks and small.”
In response to Markle’s remarks, Goldberg launched a tirade against the star, saying her comments were insensitive to other people playing the role, adding that viewers were more interested in the money than protesting her.

On Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” Goldberg criticized Markle for her recent comments about feeling “watched” when she worked as a briefcase girl on the hit game show “Deal or No Deal.”
The mother of two previously stated in an episode of her “Archetypes” podcast that the show’s actors “force [her] to be all look and little substance,” grinned and smiled every time he revealed the contents of the case.
The “Suits” alum played the role across 34 episodes of the show, spanning 2006 to 2007. After her stint, she continued to build her film career, starring in various films and series.
In response to Markle’s claims, Goldberg seemed to call out the former Royal for thinking that her role in “Deal or No Deal” would play out differently than she claimed.
“It’s TV, honey … what do you think you’re going to do? You know that’s the show,” said the veteran lawyer.
Whoopi Goldberg Believes Audiences Are More Interested In Money
Digging deeper, Goldberg went on to argue that he believed the audience was more interested in the money than actively objecting to the “Suits” star.
“I don’t know if the people sitting there think of you like that. They think, ‘I want the money,”’ said the “View” co-host. “Because Vanna White is always into something interesting and beautiful, and she has done this…”
She added, “The objectification probably comes from you and how you feel about how these women are portrayed, and that’s what you have to change, because we’re entertainers. When you’re an entertainer, you’re on the show.”
The “Sister act” star went on to say that Markle’s comments were insensitive to the former briefcase girls, adding that she shouldn’t make them feel bad “because they’re trying to make a living too.”

Goldberg’s comments came after Markle sparked controversy following her claims on an episode of her “Archetypes” podcast, which guest-starred Paris Hilton.
The mother of two compares her time on the game show to her job as an intern at the US Embassy in Argentina. He said the latter was “appreciated [her] specifically for[her] brain” while the container is “valued [her] for something else.”
The former actress said, “There was a cookie-cutter idea of what we were supposed to look like… The girls would line up on set for different stations where they would wear lashes, get extensions or wear padding in their bras. — and they receive spray tan vouchers every week.”
Markle also said per Explosion“It’s purely about beauty, and not necessarily about brains,” adding, “I don’t like feeling forced to be all looks and little stuff.”
Megyn Kelly Says Meghan Markle ‘Want To Be Objectified’

Since she made the statement, Markle has received disses from different individuals besides Goldberg. On Wednesday’s episode of her show “SiriusXM,” media personality and reporter Megyn Kelly shared that the former Royal was aware of the job before working on the program.
He said, per NYP“[Markle] knows exactly what she’s doing in the job, and it’s no wonder she wants to look her best while doing it,” Kelly said of the 41-year-old on Wednesday.
Elaborating on Markle’s statement, Kelly labeled the Duchess of Sussex the “Duchess of Duplicity.” The reporter also said, “What he’s trying to trick us now is whether he’s enjoying it,” before adding, “He’s loving every minute of it! He wants to be objectified!”
