Julianne Hough will return to the ballroom and replace Tyra Banks as co-host of “Dancing With the Stars.”
Alfonso Ribeiro will return as a co-host alongside the “Dancing With the Stars” alum, while his brother, Derek Hough, will return to the judges’ table alongside Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
Now, her brother and the show’s judge, Derek Hough, has spoken out – admitting he wasn’t “shocked” when the news broke.

Derek Hough, who is thrilled to have his sister back in the ballroom as a new co-host, recently admitted he wasn’t “surprised” when the ABC reality show decided to let Tyra Banks go.
“I wouldn’t say it’s surprising,” Hough said Us Weekly. “He has a lot going on and a lot going on in his future. He is someone who will always work and will always be an entrepreneur and always create opportunities. And he’s a great person.”
He went on to say, “Tyra is so kind — like really, really, really kind, and I just have to give her absolute props. She just sent the most beautiful message to Julianne, and I’m so grateful to her for her grace. “
Julianne Hough is set to take over as co-host alongside “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” actor Alfonso Ribeiro. Hough has experience beyond being a professional dancer on the show as she was a judge from 2014-2017. He also returns as a guest judge on the show in 2021. He also has experience hosting a television show as for the past few years, he and his brother Derek Hough have hosted the special “Disney’s Wonderful World: Magical Holiday Celebration”.
Speaking about his sister taking over as host, Derek Hough has no doubts that she is “the right choice”.
“She’s a great host,” he continued to say of his sister. “You know, we hosted a Disney special together and he was great. He’s also a great dancer and singer and everything, but … he’s part of the show and he knows the show and he’s part of the show. [DWTS] family.”

Tyra Banks herself has approved Julianne Hough to co-host the new “Dancing With The Stars” after leaving the reality show. The TV personality and supermodel recently revealed that she is leaving ‘DWTS’ to focus on her entrepreneurial and business interests.
“The entrepreneur in me sees how amazing Julianne is on so many levels,” she said US Weekly after the news broke. “He is the perfect choice! He will destroy it!”
Banks highlighted other qualities about the 34-year-old that make him a good fit. She noted that Hough is a professional dancer and the younger sister of “DWTS” “multi-champion” and “brilliant judge,” Derek Hough. Referring to the siblings, Banks said, “It’s going to be a family affair in the ballroom that people are going to love watching.”

He continued, “The incredible team that brings the ballroom to life every night has been my family for the past 17 years. I’m thrilled to be reunited with Alfonso, Carrie Ann, Bruno, Derek, incredibly talented professionals, and the amazing cast on the floor dance.”
“Dancing with the Stars” will return to Disney+ in the fall.
