Garth Brooks recently held a press conference for the launch of his radio station with TuneIn Radio in Nashville.
During the conference, the country music star revealed that his wife, Trisha Yearwood, had made an offer to take his last name after 17 years of marriage. However, he rejected it.
follow Today, who reported on the conference, Yearwood offered Brooks a gesture for their 17th wedding anniversary. Brooks reportedly said, “(Yearwood) was sweet enough for our anniversary last year to have a document where his official last name was Brooks. I turned it down.”

Brooks explained his decision to reject Yearwood by saying that “Tradition doesn’t count” in his family. He explained that Yearwood was his wife’s last name and that his father only had two daughters, so he “could change my name to Yearwood.”
He said, “Tradition doesn’t count here. What’s important is that when you have two celebrities, neither one swallows the other.” Later in the conference, Brooks also talked about wanting a female-focused radio station called “BABE,” which Yearwood could join. He said, “It’s disgusting entertainment. I’d love to see him involved in the channel.”
Brooks popped the question to Yearwood in 2005, but they had met and worked together nearly two decades earlier. The couple eventually married in December of that year in an intimate wedding at their home in Oklahoma, with only their family and friends present.

Brooks said, “I think if you know Garth Brooks, no matter how long you’ve known him, [he’s] always inclusive. We will need each other, believe me. So I think so [regarding] diversity, inclusion, I think what you find is that our differences are our greatest strength.”
Garth Brooks Teases His Alter Ego’s Return

During the interview with Billboard Country Live at Nashville’s CMA Fest, the “If Tomorrow Never Comes” singer talked about her upcoming music project and teased the return of Chris Gaines, her rock star alter ego from her hit 1999 album.
He said, “The Gaines project takes a lot of time — because it’s not natural, you’re acting on a record — but I want to do it just for the people who love the Gaines project,” the country music legend said.
“And selfishly, I love Chris Gaines’ records, so I want to do it for me. It challenges me as a vocalist. So I don’t know when we’re going to do it, but it’s on the list.”
