A group of Marines exchanged punches with civilians in Austin, Texas’ entertainment district in a street brawl that was caught on camera and watched by dozens of revelers.
The video, apparently recorded Sunday night, shows chaos erupting after a young woman appears to take a phone from a Marine and throw it during a verbal confrontation on Sixth Street.
A young man in a white hoodie then lunged at one Marine before he was stopped by the others all in their blue uniforms, the footage shows.
For several seconds, several Marines grappled back and forth with the young man and his partner – with a bit of shoving involved – before the man in the white hoodie appeared to throw the first punch.
Chaos then ensued as at least a few fights between different groups broke out.
A civilian, wearing jeans and a t-shirt, landed several punches to the face of a Marine who then connected one of his punches to the man’s jaw, causing him to stumble backwards, the video shows.

Another Marine then burst onto the scene and chased the same civilian who fell to the ground.
Shortly after, Texas Department of Public Safety and Austin police officers intervened as they broke up the fight. One of the officers appears to arrest the civilian as he lies face down, the footage shows.
Another party who did not appear to be part of the fight chanted USA as authorities regained control of the scene.
Other officers on horseback also responded.

The state Department of Public Safety referred questions to Austin police, who did not immediately return an email seeking further information.
It is not clear what led to the chaos or how many people have been arrested.
Sixth Street — lined with bars and nightclubs — has long been a tourist attraction for Austin, but has also been plagued by safety problems and rowdy behavior.
A shooting left one dead and 13 injured in 2021, according to local reports.
