Tourists trying to escape New York on low-cost airlines out of LaGuardia Airport faced ankle-deep water Friday morning amid widespread flooding.
The airport was forced to close its Terminal — from where Spirit and Frontier Airlines flights depart — as floodwaters engulfed the building.
Pictures and videos posted online showed the terminal covered in water as panicked passengers tried to escape.
One woman even shared footage from inside one of the terminals, showing her TikTok followers water creeping up her boots and seeping through the revolving door of the building.
“NEVER FLY FROM LAGUARDIA AGAIN.” he wrote on the clip.
“Yes, it’s a ‘flash’ flood – but there it is [sic] there is no reason for the airport to flood like this.”
Another video posted to TikTok by influencer Batsheva Haart shows a car struggling to drive through water that has piled up on surrounding roads.
He called the footage a “PSA of anyone entering or leaving LGA.”
Amid the flooding, LaGuardia Airport officials announced that they were temporarily closing operations at Terminal A, and passengers would be transported to Terminal C.
All Spirit Airlines flights, departing from the terminal, were canceled until 3pm, while Frontier Airlines said it would operate its two remaining flights from Terminal C.
The airport too warn passengers at X they “should confirm their flight status before going to the airport.”
As of 1 p.m., LaGuardia reported 44 delays and 50 flight cancellations, according to Flight Aware, a website that monitors airport traffic.
Nearby John F. Kennedy Airport also reported 42 flight delays and nine cancellations.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said airport staff are monitoring runways, roadways and terminals and will reroute traffic if necessary.
