On the latest episode of his podcast “Class of ’88,” Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff reminisce about the early days of their music careers, highlighting the unusual situation when Smith had to play the Doctor.
In late 1987, the two were working on a new album for Jive Records in a London hotel room and “under pressure” to deliver a brilliant album “quickly.”
Smith revealed the reason behind the pressure, stating: “It must be great. If we screw it up, we may never get a chance to make another one. It was a big question back then if rap could really make money for record companies.

However, their journey to create a rap album “on the fly” had some unexpected curveballs. “Before we left for London, Jeff broke his leg in a car accident. So when we finally got to our hotel, Jeff was in a full line from hip to ankle,” explained Smith, per People magazine.
Jeff admitted that he should have removed the cast before the trip, adding: “I probably should have gotten the cast before we went to make the album, but I didn’t so I passed because the cast got to the point that the stuffing in the cast started to irritate my kneecap — that’s that’s why Will kind of came up with this brilliant idea of ’I can let go of your cast.’”
Smith’s “brilliant idea” to remove the involved actors using a hotel room service butter knife. Recalling the incident, Jeff said, “They brought 24 butter knives, and he kept looking, and he kind of got it until the cast started splitting.”

Smith interjected: “So I’ve seen the cast from above, which, I don’t think, is medically recommended, so the cast is stuck maybe halfway down Jeff’s leg.”
Explaining the reason behind his confidence, “I think I can handle it,” Smith said.
He continued: “My basic thought is always ‘yes.’ I don’t see any value in saying ‘no.’ If someone says, ‘Can you fly this shuttle?’ Yes of course. For me, that’s a big part of my energy with us going out into the world and making music. It’s like, why can’t we do it as big as anybody’s ever done? The answer is ‘yes.'”

However, the turning point occurred when Jeremy “JL” Lam, a friend connected to Jam Master Jay’s family, entered the room.
Smith described JL’s reaction upon discovering the room, stating: “So JL walks in, and JL sees, there’s like 30 butter knives all over the floor, and you’re in the bathtub with your cast… it’s like, ‘What the f— are you guys do?’”
Reaching out, JL improvised. “He opened a can of beef stew and the jagged edge – he used the jagged edge of the top of the can and he went straight down, where I was trying to look vertically, he went horizontally,” Smith said.
Within seven minutes, the cast was removed without hospitalizing Jeff, allowing them to concentrate on their music, which required fast delivery.
Will Smith’s Rough Marriage With Jada Pinkett Smith

His recent revelation comes in the wake of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s shocking claims about their marriage.
Jada shared that she and Smith have been separated for seven years now. The allegations angered some of Smith’s fans, especially due to his actions at the 2022 Oscars, where the actor slapped comedian Chris Rock.
At the time, Smith yelled at Rock after hitting him, “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth.”
Despite things appearing to be rough between the pair, Smith has since endorsed Jada’s new memoir, “Worth it.” During an event for the book’s release, the “I am Legend” actor described his marriage to the “Girls Trip” star as “brutiful,” which means “brutal and beautiful.”
