Wynonna Judd Reflects On Naomi Judd’s Death: ‘I Cry A Lot’

It seems that Wynonna Judd feels more comfortable talking about the loss of her mother, Naomi Judd, who killed herself at the age of 76 in April 2022.

Wynonna, 58, and her mother formed a country music duo known as The Judds, beloved by the country music community. While many are finding it difficult to cope with the loss of a music legend, Wynonna decided she was ready to open up about her own grieving process in a new interview.

Wyonna Judd told PEOPLE magazine that she is a “walking contradiction” and feels conflicting emotions when remembering the loss of her mother.

“I will tell you what I know about death. In death, there is life. I think both at the same time simultaneously,” he said. “I feel happy and sad. I walk in a paradox. I’m really conflicted running. I feel happy. I feel sick. I feel light. I feel dark.”

Although she considers herself a “pretty tough” person, she admits that she has a “soft” side when reflecting on the loss of her mother. Although she says she relies on a “really wicked sense of humor” to try to get through the tragedy with her sister, Ashley Judd, she says “it depends” when she thinks about how she “dealt” with her mother’s death.

“I was talking on the phone and suddenly I would start crying. Then 10 minutes later, I was making dinner and I was talking to my husband about our date night,” she admitted. “Then my granddaughter came and I cried again. I cried a lot.”

However, she said that all her tears were not “a sign of weakness” and assured her followers that it’s okay to cry over the loss of a loved one. “When you lose someone you love, it’s like, ‘Holy shit, this is really happening. Is this really happening?’ Your brain says, ‘No, this isn’t really happening,'” she said. “Then you come home and I realize, yeah, my mom’s not here anymore.”
