Yara Shahidi talks about all the perks that come with her Tinker Bell role and what it means to her.
The famous actor, known for his starring roles on popular TV shows such as Black-ish (2014–2022) and its spin-off series Grown-ish (2018-present), was recently cast on his current show which will end this summer with its sixth season, and what it’s like to have her very own Tinker Bell doll.

On April 25, the 23-year-old entertainer excitedly chatted with him ET‘s spokesperson at the premiere of her new film and expressed her gratitude for the six years she had the privilege of playing Zoey Johnson on the sitcom. “I mean, we hit 100 episodes. The show can’t do that anymore.” He added:
“So, I think it’s bittersweet, but mostly sweet, because we got to tell a lot of stories, and I’ve been a lot of Zoey over the last six years.”
In addition to Grown-ish, Shahidi also touched on her role as Tinker Bell in the upcoming Peter Pan remake “Peter Pan & Wendy.” He mentioned that Julia Roberts and Josephine Baker helped him achieve Tinker Bell performance but was mostly inspired by the latter. In his words:
“We have Julia Roberts, we have a lot of amazing people. I think the perhaps surprising inspiration, is that we look at Josephine Baker’s performance, because she has a lot of things where she uses her features and doesn’t say anything.”

Shahidi continued, “So when we were trying to figure out what Tink’s facial features and movements were, it was a lot of silent movies and Josephine Baker.”
The activist’s latest Disney role earned her the right to make a doll in her likeness, and she was more than happy to pour it on. He answered when asked how it feels to have a toy made after him. “Very special.” He then said:
“I didn’t remember until we were just walking around for the press today, that one of my first dolls was an Alvin Ailey ballerina. And I remember how wonderful it was to have a doll that looked like me, to have a doll that looked like my family, in these beautiful clothes.”
Not surprisingly, the NAACP Image Award winner wasn’t the only one excited about her new role, as many fans rallied around Shahidi on Twitter when Disney released the “Peter Pan and Wendy” trailer in February.
One fan wrote, “TINKERBELL MY LOVE #PeterPanAndWendy.” Another wrote, “yara shahidi as Tinkerbell! she is so cute ??♀️✨.” One particular netizen, acknowledging that Black History Month is coming to a great end, opened, “My Little Mermaid is BLACK! My Tinkerbell is BLACK! My Queen Charlotte is BLACK! Now that’s how you end Black History Month, baby!”

Apart from the incredible 2023, the sensational actor also had an unforgettable last year as a college graduate. Last May, The Blast reported how the “Imagine That” actor celebrated his graduation from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on social media.
After her graduation on May 26, 2022, the TV star blessed her millions of Instagram followers with two pictures from the unforgettable day. In it, she models a beautiful custom-made Dior two-piece suit.
The first slide shows the black Hollywood sensation giving the camera a stunning smile while wearing a black graduation cap in her shoulder-length curls. It captured her gaze from head to shoulder and explained her natural beauty through her stylish makeup. In the picture, he is posing in front of the University flag.
Shahidi gave fans a good look at her Dior suit in the second snap. The outfit consisted of a white collared shirt, a red suit jacket designed with six black buttons, and a matching red miniskirt.
