Actor Alec Baldwin seems a bit “rusty” as the Western film “Rust” resumes production at the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana.
Production on the film was put on hold in October 2021 after a gun thrown by the “30 Rock” actor struck and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Although charges against Baldwin have been dropped, his family is still seeking justice in a civil suit filed by his parents and sister.
Although director Joel Souza was also injured filming on set, he returned to direct Baldwin and finished filming “Rust” with most of the original cast and crew members.

On Sunday, Alec Baldwin was photographed on the set of the movie “Rust” and appeared to be having a little trouble mounting his horse. The 65-year-old actor was surrounded by no less than six crew members who helped him climb the small steps and mount the horse properly to film the scene.
The “Beetlejuice” actor dressed up for the part, wearing a cowboy hat, brown coat and leather boots. He has also grown his beard for the role, as seen in some of his past Instagram photos. The photos of Baldwin struggling to mount his horse were first shared by the New York Post but they weren’t the only photos of Baldwin that were released over the weekend.

On Saturday, just one day after the involuntary manslaughter charge was officially dropped, TMZ shared a photo showing the actor holding a shotgun on set as he handed the firearm to another crew member.
Melina Spadone, Attorney for Rust Movie Productions, has stated that the Western movie will not use any working weapons this time. “The production will continue to use union crews and will prevent any use of functional weapons and any form of ammunition,” Spadone said. “Ammunition is – and has always been – prohibited on set.”

There were several crew members who did not return to finish their work on “Rust.” The first is first assistant director David Halls, who pleaded guilty to a charge of negligent use of a firearm and is facing six months’ probation. Halls was reportedly the one who told Baldwin that he was holding a “cold gun” in October 2021 – a gun that did not contain live ammunition.
Another crew member who did not return to the set was “Rust” shield Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who is still facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s ‘Rusty’ Shield Still Facing Involuntary Manslaughter Charges

On Friday, a virtual hearing postponed the preliminary hearing for “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, which is currently scheduled for August 9 through August 16 in New Mexico’s First Judicial District Court.
Although special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis dropped two counts of involuntary manslaughter against Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed still faces those charges. Prosecutors have accused the new armorer of “careless firearms mishandling” on set, which they say led to the death of Halyna Hutchins.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is the daughter of famous movie armorer Thell Reed and had only worked as an armorer on other movie sets before she was hired to work on “Rust.” Although he was reportedly responsible for loading the Colt .45 revolver for the infamous church scene, he was not present when the fatal incident took place.
Gutierrez-Reed’s attorneys, Jason Bowles and Todd Bullion, released a statement, saying, “The new special prosecutor team has taken a very diligent and thorough approach to the entire investigation, which we welcome and always welcome.”
“They are looking for the truth and so are we. The truth about what happened will be revealed and the question we have been searching for for a long time will be answered,” they continued. “We fully expect at the end of this process that Hannah will also be released.”
Halyna Hutchins’ Husband To Serve As New ‘Rust’ Executive Producer

Halyna’s husband, Matthew Hutchins, will serve as an executive producer on the new film after reaching a settlement in her wrongful death lawsuit last October. He has reportedly given his “blessing and support” to new cinematographer Bianca Cline, who has worked on the critically acclaimed “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.”
In a statement at the time, Matthew Hutchins said, “We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, of our wrongful death lawsuit against the producers of Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our will be rejected.”
“I’m not interested in getting involved in accusations or accusations of blame (on the publisher or Mr. Baldwin),” Hutchins added. “We all believe that Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”
