Alec Baldwin Takes A Break From Filming ‘Rust’ For Son’s Birthday Party

Actor Alec Baldwin hit the pause button on the filming of “Rust” to spend some time with his family.

Although his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, revealed that she had missed Ilaria’s birthday by seven months, it seems that the 65-year-old actor is back to spend quality time with his family before he returns to the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana to finish producing his work on Western films.

On Wednesday night, the Boston native took to Instagram to share a photo of the actress posing with her seven children. Although the actor previously traveled to Montana to film the Twister-esque movie “Supercell,” which had a quiet release earlier this year, Hilaria said that Alec had never gone this far before.

“Alec was gone, filming, and our family was never apart for so long,” she wrote. “We brought him back for a day off, before he went back to Montana.

Luckily, it looks like he’s making the most of his short time with family. “Grateful for our magical family photos and all the zoom-in moments that make us smile,” she wrote.

“Also: someone else’s kid trying to buy a giant piñata in party town?!?? Little Ilaria was like: this wild family I met?!??” he asked, adding, “Ps Carmen is dressed in edu, lu, her and me in white and red stripes with jeans…she’s our little stylist captain.”

The next day, the actor also took to Instagram to share a photo featuring him posing with his family from different angles. Although his son Romeo’s birthday isn’t until May 17, the family celebrated earlier in the month, so it looks like he may be gone for a while.

“A lot is happening in this photo. As usual. It’s Romeo’s birthday party. (real birthday May 17) Thank you to all my son’s friends/classmates who joined us,” he wrote in the caption. “I have never seen children eat more sweets in my life. They are like locusts. Grasshopper candy.”

“Every little human being their own unique self, captured here in their own thoughts. Amazing,” commented one fan. “Imperfect photos are always the best photos. They’re all precious,” another follower wrote. “They’re on a sugar high ! Loved it. Beautiful picture!” the third fan sounds.

McDermott joined the cast in the role of Lucas Hollister just last week in an Instagram post celebrating the announcement. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with Joel and the entire team to bring this story to the screen,” McDermott said in a statement to Variety. “The Western is a true American art form with a long history – an exciting genre to be a part of!”

The role of Lucas Hollister was originally played by Brady Noon, but he was replaced when production moved from New Mexico to Montana a year and a half after Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on set.

Director Joel Souza was also hospitalized on the shoot but has since returned to finish the film, along with most of the original cast and crew. Actors Travis Fimmel, Frances Fisher, and “Supernatural” alum Jensen Ackles are all back as well.

The production of the film is expected to be completed by the end of this month. “Rust” attorney Melina Spadone clarified that working firearms will not be used this time in a statement stating that live ammunition is, is, and always will be prohibited on set.

“The production will continue to use union crews and will prevent any use of working weapons and any form of ammunition. Live ammunition is — and always has been — prohibited on set,” he said. “Each of us is dedicated wholeheartedly to realizing Halyna’s vision and honoring her art.”

Director Joel Souza also stated that it was “bittersweet” to end the film without the late Hutchins. Her husband, Matthew Hutchins, was added to the film as an executive producer as part of a wrongful death lawsuit settlement last October.

“As bittersweet as it is, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team has joined the former cast and crew to complete what Halyna and I started,” Souza said in a statement. “My every effort in this film will be focused on honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud.”

Last month, the Daily Mail reported that documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy was working on a documentary about Alec Baldwin and the filming of “Rust.” Kennedy was seen filming Baldwin as he left for Montana. The outlet also noted that its documentary crew was on set in Montana to capture the film’s completion footage.

Kennedy’s documentary is the second project that will focus on the filming of “Rust”. “Circus of Books” director Rachel Mason and producer Julee Metz are also working on a documentary about Halyna Hutchins, who is their friend. The film is being made together with input from Matthew Hutchins.
