The new shield faces two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of tampering with evidence in connection with the October 2021 death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

On October 21, 2021, “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on the set of a Western when a gun held by actor Alec Baldwin exploded, striking and killing her. Director Joel Souza, who was standing behind Hutchins, was hospitalized as a result of the incident.

To prepare for the trial, “Rust” special prosecutors have issued a subpoena from “Rust” attorneys to obtain audio and video footage featuring Alec Baldwin or Hannah Gutierrez-Reed on set as part of their case. Recent footage obtained by NBC News shows Baldwin telling Halyna Hutchins to stay away from the camera as she rehearses a scene involving the discharge of a gun.

“And we think about it now, where we have different lives in terms of work,” he continued. “I was really thinking about, you know, I’ve had enough, I mean, I’ve been doing this for a long time and I want to have a personal life.”
