Andy Cohen has slammed CNN for their “stupid” alcohol ban on their annual New Year’s Eve broadcast.
The “Real Housewives” host and her co-host, Anderson Cooper, were banned from consuming any alcohol while hosting after Cohen made a rude remark at Ryan Seacrest.
While speaking to Howard Stern on his radio show, Cohen called out the network, claiming that people came up to him on the street, telling him they wished the web would let them drink for this year’s event.

During Andy Cohen’s recent appearance on “The Howard Stern” radio show, host Howard Stern brought up the topic of CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve broadcast and how he enjoyed seeing Cohen and Anderson Cooper “blow up”.
Stern said, “Now, part of the fun, I think about you on New Year’s Eve, is you get slammed and say things that don’t make sense.”
To this, Cohen interjected, saying, “Well, that’s everybody… People want to see me make Anderson laugh, and they like to see him hit.”
Cohen then talked about last year’s broadcast and how they had to try not to have any alcohol so they could put on a great show.
He said, “We’re stupid, we do mystery pictures, we do everything we can. I mean, we’re doing orange juice shots and trying to guess what it is.”
The “Watch What Happens Live” host added, “We did what we could, we did everything we could to deal with it, but it was just, yeah, it was a stupid move.”

While still on the topic of CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast, Cohen claimed that people came up to him asking if he and Cooper would be allowed to drink for this year’s event.
He told Stern, “People say to me today when I’m walking down the street, ‘Please tell me they’re going to let you drink this year.'”
Cohen added that their guests last New Year’s Eve also thought the restriction on alcohol was a stupid move by the network.
“We have Kevin Hart! He likes four minutes live on New Year’s Eve about how stupid CNN is not letting us drink, so how does that work out for CNN?” show attorney stated.
Why CNN Banned Alcohol on New Year’s Eve

CNN banned alcohol during its New Year’s Eve broadcast after Cohen brushed off Ryan Seacrest live while appearing drunk.
Per DiversityCohen referred to “New Year’s Rockin’ Night” as “Ryan Seacrest’s band of losers performing behind us,” adding, “I mean, with all [respect], if you’ve been watching ABC tonight, you’ve seen nothing. I am sorry.”
Many viewers did not take Cohen’s remarks well, leading to the network announcing that they would cut back on drinking on the popular annual telecast.

The Bravo showrunner initially stated that the alcohol ban did not affect him or Cooper, claiming that CNN only referred to “correspondents” and not “hosts.”
“Anderson and I will be the ones partying on CNN, [though] we’re going to party responsibly,” Cohen said at the time. “My job is to take Anderson out of his comfort zone, [and] my job is to be the party leader for everyone watching us on New Year’s Eve, And that’s what I’ll continue to do. And really: If journalists don’t drink this year, I’ll party even harder On their behalf.”
Cohen later complied with the network’s alcohol ban and hosted the annual show for the sixth time in a row.
Andy Cohen Regrets Getting Ryan Seacrest Drunk

“American Idol” host Seacrest revealed that he agrees with the move to cut back on-air drinking. He told Entertainment Weekly that he “doesn’t advocate drinking while someone is on the air,” adding that he doesn’t “know how it started as a tradition, but it might be a good idea [to cut back]CNN.”
On his Sirius XM radio show, Cohen admitted that insulting Seacrest and slamming the ABC broadcast was not a bright idea.
He said, per Diversity, “The only thing I’m sorry to say, the only thing is that I slammed the ABC broadcast, and I love Ryan Seacrest, and he’s a great guy.” Cohen added, “And I regret saying it, and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it.”
It remains to be seen whether CNN plans to lift or, at least, ease restrictions on alcohol for this year’s New Year’s Eve broadcast.
