Artist Anna Marie Tendler, who was previously married to comedian John Mulaney, has backtracked on a joke she made in which she claimed singer Taylor Swift stole her artwork.
The artist has now made her TikTok account private to avoid the backlash she received from Swifties, who were unhappy with Tendler’s “joke” that the “Cruel Summer” singer lifted her artwork for her Eras Tour.

Swifties know “All Too Well” that Taylor Swift kicked off her highly publicized Eras Tour last week, despite the Tickermaster scandal. While most fans were there for the music, Anna Marie Tendler paid attention to the artwork for her set design.
In a since-deleted TikTok video, Tendler went after Swift and those who created her art design, claiming that it was lifted from one of her photos. “Uh, Taylor, my girl, the person who designed Taylor’s tour, uh, this arrangement of ‘Tolerate’ looks a lot like one of my pictures in tone and aesthetic.”

“Um, it doesn’t really feel like a parallel thought to me,” he continued. “I’m a small, uh, freelance artist trying to make money and live off my artwork. Uh, I don’t know what to do about this and maybe someone can help me.”
Even people who aren’t Taylor Swift fans feel that Anna Marie Tendler nailed it. “I’m crying. It doesn’t look the same. ‘Tolerate It’ literally has lyrics about setting the schedule. So she sets the schedule in her show,” explained one fan. “Taylor breathes oxygen and people will accuse her of breathing the same thing,” another user said kidding

Tendler later took to TikTok to comment on the re-uploaded video in which he claimed that he was only jokingly accusing the “Bad Blood” singer of lifting the set of “Tolerate It” from his photo, which he sold for $5,000.
“Hi! This is meant to be a joke,” he wrote on the platform. “Most of my videos are jokes or sarcasm! When I realized it didn’t land as a joke, I deleted it. No offense meant.” However, fans aren’t buying it. “Girl bffr, you reach and you miss,” wrote one follower.

“Ahhh the ‘it’s just a joke’ defense when what you mean so seriously turns out to be untouchable!” another user chimed in. “He deleted then turned off all his comments. Big fan of his work; however, this is a long one,” another follower agreed.
Some followers tried to defend Anna Marie Tendler. “SO SATI!!! He cleared it, saying that he was joking. I’m so sad that he’s so closed because everyone is taking it seriously,” commented one fan. “Doesn’t feel like a joke to me lol he’s just trying to get attention or maybe get some coins from Taylor,” another user responded.

“With all due respect, I think he was praised then changed the narrative once he received backlash. Regardless, they’re both great in their own way,” shared another fan. “I wonder if it was actually a joke because he thought it might bring attention to his work. It looks very unusual. Back off either,” said another follower.
Luckily, it looks like Swifties has been enjoying the start of her Eras Tour, which kicked off in “Swift City,” Arizona, last week.
