Ashley Tisdale Shares Her Experience Managing Alopecia: ‘Know That You Are Not Alone’

Ashley Tisdale is always open about her struggles with alopecia!

Medically known as alopecia areata, this disease occurs when the immune system attacks the hair follicles, causing hair loss. While it could be due to heredity, hormonal changes, or just being part of normal aging, the actress and singer revealed that she was triggered by severe stress in her early 20s.

The former Disney star will be the latest celebrity to voice her struggles with the condition, joining the likes of Viola Davis, Matt Lucas, Naomi Campbell, Kristin Davis, Rosie O’Donnell, Tyra Banks and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Ashley Tisdale Copes With Her Alopecia By Picking Her Battles When Facing Stress

Tisdale took to her health blog Frenshe on Wednesday to speak candidly about a subject many people have difficulty discussing. The “High School Musical” star began by recalling how she discovered a “small bald spot” on her hairline and asked her hair colorist about it.

After a diagnosis from her dermatologist, “the hair grew back thankfully,” as it always does, unless she’s in a stressful situation. Tisdale noted that she uses stress management tools such as yoga, meditation, and “thinking about big things versus not big problems” to deal with her particular condition.

“It makes you feel better, and it’s really healing towards the gut. You don’t want to follow it for a lifestyle diet, but it’s good to do like a 30-day thing with it.

He also suggests that those struggling with autoimmune conditions can try platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment, claiming that he has seen great results. As she wrapped up her speech in the Instagram clip, the “It’s Alright, It’s OK” singer reassured the alopecia-stricken audience, “You’re not alone.”

A look at the comments section proves that many individuals who have – and still deal with – alopecia choose to keep quiet about it. “My mom struggled with it, but it’s not coming back. It’s completely gone all over her body. Thank you for voicing this because it’s still hard for some to accept,” admitted one.

Another shared that while they’ve had some results after trying “rosemary oil, biotin, vit B supplements, scalp exfoliation and massage,” what Tisade says in the clip is “interesting,” and they’re looking “into paleo now .”

A third Instagram user commented, “Paleo Autoimmune is AMAZING for any autoimmune disease! So glad you shared the resource. It really helped improve Graves’ Disease for me! Highly recommend anyone struggling with autoimmunity to try AIP!”

While a fourth fan praised Tisade for using her “platform to talk openly about alopecia and highlight the difficulties of experiencing hair loss,” another added:

“I have alopecia and you definitely opened my eyes to accepting myself and loving myself. I struggle with it but thank you for being amazing.”

“You are very beautiful and strong. Love you Ash!,” another fan gushed.
