Bill Maher is calling on Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, saying the 80-year-old incumbent is too old to run for president and comparing him to the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The “Real Time with Bill Maher” host mocked Biden on Friday night, describing the president as “the only democrat who could lose to Trump,” even though the men are only four years apart in age.

“Someone needs to convince President Biden that if he runs again, he will return the country to Trump and go down… in history as Ruth Bader Biden, the person who does not know when to quit and does so to the great detriment of their party and their country,” said Maher, referring to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Ginsburg famously decided not to retire during the Obama administration when she could be replaced by a liberal justice, only to die at age 87 in September 2020 during the Trump administration.

“What is important is that voters think Biden is too old. What is important is that he will lose to Trump,” he added.

While he acknowledged Biden’s success over Donald Trump in 2020, Maher dismissed the Democrats’ optimistic narrative that the president would repeat his success in 2024.

Maher described Biden as the Democrats’ best bet in the last election and described him as a competent president who handled a number of national and foreign issues well.

But for Maher, the upside far outweighs the risk for Biden, who is already the nation’s oldest president.

“You can be a national treasure and still be too old for the job. If I’m in a plane and the pilot says, ‘This is your captain, Buzz Aldrin,’ I’m going to get off,” Maher joked.

Maher went on to claim that his comments should not be seen as an age factor, saying that the issue should be evaluated on a case-by-case scenario. And with Biden, Maher said the decision is clear through his countless mistakes as president.

“That’s what case by case means at an event last weekend. Biden referred to LL Cool J as LLJ Cool J,” said of the president’s latest confusion.

“Say what you want about Trump, but he remembers Kanye’s name,” Maher added.

Maher is not alone in his opinion, last month MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough claimed that every Democrat he spoke to shared the belief that Biden is too old to run for re-election.

“Every political discussion … when it comes to Joe Biden, people say, ‘Man, he’s too old to run, right?'” Scarborough said on air. “When I say every discussion, I don’t mean 99% of the discussions – every discussion.”

About 75 percent of Americans said they were very concerned about Biden’s age and felt his ability to serve a full term would be hindered by it, according to a CNN poll.

A majority of Democrats and left-leaning voters also said that the party should nominate someone other than Biden, but 82% of them could not name any specific alternative they would like to see run for office.

Unlike his opponent, Trump seems to have avoided any hot topic discussion about his age despite being only four years younger. If Trump wins in 2024, he will be 82 years old and surpass Biden’s record as the oldest president ever.
