The entrepreneur shared with Facts that he is on the right path with his new company called “Pirate”. He claims that he studied “so much” and “read a ton” because what else do you do in prison?
When asked what’s next for him, McFarland said. “It’s all about piracy and about rebuilding trust and paying people back and kind of going back to what I’m good at. McFarland famously went to jail after it was revealed that his music festival Fyre Fest was a scam and that a bunch of influencers, gen-Xers, and anyone who bought tickets had been sold a book of lies.
McFarland was imprisoned when millions of dollars were embezzled.

We’re not sure if he’s delusional or what but when asked how people react to him when they see him, McFarland is a lot more optimistic than we thought. “It’s fun. I think the support is better than I expected,’ he said, grinning from ear to ear.
“But still, it’s only been two months,” he realized. On a more somber note, he said that while the response to his release from strangers was good, his own friends weren’t really there.
“Losing a lot of close friends and some I never expected would still be there, so it’s been a process.

“I have a concept like connecting different people and festivals can be a part of that,” admits the shameless business owner. “But, I think our idea is a little more unique this time,” he said.
Facts also insisted that McFarland was in good spirits and while he agreed he admitted that he was “sad” and had no problem taking responsibility for it. He insists that he has never been a man who sits still.
“A lot of the problem is that people expect you to do nothing,” but he sees it this way. “Do I want to work at a desk for 80 hours a week and not pay anyone back? Or do you want to do it, and do it honestly”

McFarland admitted when asked about the money, it’s hard to get some people’s attention but he knows he can rely on his little fame because he says there are always “attention seekers” out there and that alone, it opens a lot of doors.
