Bindi Irwin has opened up about her endometriosis diagnosis months after she first broke the news to her fans.
The star of “Crikey! It’s The Irwins” shared his experience of enduring over a decade of personal suffering, as doctors initially ignored his debilitating symptoms. Throughout the year, she struggled with severe fatigue, pain and nausea as her attempts to seek help from a specialist and undergo various tests and scans resulted in her concerns being repeatedly dismissed.

During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Bindi candidly spoke about the years she spent dealing with endometriosis without knowing what it was. Kicking off the moving conversation, the 25-year-old stated:
“I was tested for everything. Every tropical disease, Lyme disease, cancer, you name it. I had every blood test and scan imaginable. It’s so hard because you feel like it’s inevitable. You don’t know what’s wrong with you, and then when people tell you ‘It’s all in your head’ or ‘you’re hormonal’ or ‘just have a cup of tea, lie down,’ you end up feeling so alone because there are no answers.”

Desperate, he admitted that his desperation for help became necessary when a severe pain attack in August 2022 left him incapacitated on the ground in the fetal position. This terrifying experience forced him to opt for laparoscopy – a minimally invasive procedure aimed at diagnosing and treating conditions in the abdomen.
“I’m really afraid that they won’t find anything because we’ve run out of everything to test. After years of doctors and various people telling you there was nothing, you really started to believe it. You end up in this weird space of self-doubt, fear and insecurity. That’s hard to overcome,” he told the publication.
The procedure eventually confirmed that Bindi was dealing with endometriosis, a reproductive disorder characterized by uterine tissue growing outside the uterus, causing cramps and chronic pain.
In laparoscopy, a total of 37 lesions and cysts on her ovaries were identified, leading to surgery to remove the cysts. Thanks to that, conservationists “get to do a little more” each week, as he notes:
“Now I wake up in the morning, and I don’t have to take anti-nausea medicine or have my heat pack. Being able to walk with my daughter and not feel like I need to puke in a bush is wild for me. I feel like I have a second chance at life. I feel brand new.”

Nearly 24 hours after the update, family members took to social media to share supportive comments, starting with her husband, Chandler Powell. According to The Blast, the father of one posted a sweet image of him and his wife on Instagram with the caption:

The 19-year-old added that her happiness is because she has “her life back,” before claiming that her “story of resilience” is a “beacon for women all over the world who are suffering – and it’s a wake-up call for men too.”
Additionally, their mother, Terri, quoted X’s version of the television personality’s announcement, expressing pride that her daughter “stayed the course and never gave up.”
The 58-year-old then shared her hope that “women everywhere” will have the courage to advocate for their health & healing” before echoing Robert’s praise that his daughter is a “beacon of light” for everyone.
