2022 is quite a year for Rizzo, and he recently opened up about spending the challenging time without Saget, who left this life on Sunday, January 9th.

Speaking to NBC News reporter Jacob Soboroff on TODAY, the grieving widow admitted that it felt “very surreal and very strange” to not have seen or spoken to her husband in a year.

She touched on sharing her grief openly with fans on social media, which she believes “has some impact on people who have gone through something similar.” It also gave him “a new sense of purpose and this life.”

Amid challenging periods of grief, Rizzo was supported by Saget’s friends and his three daughters, Aubrey, Lara, and Jennifer, from his first marriage to Sherri Kramer. “The three of them are everything to me,” she said, “because they are everything to her and keeping them close is everything.”

Cooking has also helped entertain the travel creator as she and her late partner spent some of their fondest moments in the kitchen. He feels this is another way to honor him as he is his biggest fan who loves all his videos.

Despite the immense pain he’s endured, Rizzo admits he has an “incredible gratitude” for all the good times he had with Saget, as his grief made him appreciate the love they shared even more. In his words:

“The missing him and the sadness about him hasn’t gone away, but the sadness has now really turned into this overwhelming gratitude for the time we had together.”

Looking back at the beginning of the year, he described the “Full House” actor’s death as “the worst thing that me and my family and Bob’s family and friends have ever been through.” However, he tried to make the most of it.

The 43-year-old actor told the news outlet, “But I also really tried to take from it what you can do to turn this into a positive experience because Bob did that.

He noted that the comedian “had a lot of loss in his life” but still managed to turn everything into a “positive and reflective experience.” Therefore, he will also follow in his footsteps and use “this experience in the same way.”

Before the interview, the “Unfiltered with Kelly Rizzo” star commemorated the holiday with a heartfelt tribute to Saget on Instagram. As The Blast reported, she recalled their last Christmas together and admitted that she never believed their first holiday together in Chicago would be their last.

They spent that special time with his family and one of his stepdaughters, Lara. Saget also got to meet his nephew Alex and baby Brooklyn. The visit left a lasting impression on the youngsters as Rizzo revealed that Alex still remembers the late filmmaker and talks about him “every day.”

Moving on to elaborate on the Christmas season, he noted that it is “a time for hope, love, and togetherness,” after which he prayed for those who lost loved ones amid the holidays. The May-born producer later expressed her gratitude once again for having her husband, “an incredible man,” in her life for six healthy years.

About eight months after Saget’s tragic death, Rizzo made an appearance at the red carpet event “Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine: A Tribute to Bob Saget,” where he talked about coping with his loss.

As we covered it, he revealed that he had a few good days until reality hit, prompting him to question whether he was really doing better. Rizzo also admitted that his sadness “fluctuates” and comes in “pairs”, but despite the bad days, he chooses to overcome his heartache by staying happy.

In his words, “I choose gratitude and thankfulness for the time we have together over feeling sad that our time has been cut short.”

Additionally, the “FabLife” actress believes grief comes in different phases, and she advises those with similar experiences that “the grief will pass” and they will eventually feel better.
