Charity Lawson received the newest “Bachelorette” lead role after the “Women Tell All” episode of the last season of “The Bachelor.”
It all went down when “Bachelor” host Jesse Palmer sat down with the 27-year-old to play a game of “This or That” because, what Palmer said, was for their social media. He starts by asking questions like “Is the sun rising or setting?” and “Camping or glamping?” but that quickly changed when Palmer asked Lawson, “Bachelor in Paradise or The Bachelor?” to which Lawson hesitated before answering, “The Bachelorette.”
“I’m glad you said that because Charity, I want you to be our next Bachelor,” Palmer said, surprising Lawson. She accepted the role, and the 27-year-old went on to become “The Bachelorette” days later.
A few days ago, he officially finished filming and gave his first television interview since his return.

The 27-year-old joined “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” where she talked about becoming the fourth woman of color to hold the lead role of the “Bachelorette” and the second monoracial African American woman to be the “Bachelorette.”
“It’s bigger than me,” Lawson told Jennifer Hudson, “and I’m honored to hold that representation for other people at home who look like me — little girls and women of color who can look up to me and admit that this is possible happen. for them too.”
Rachel Lindsay was the first woman of color to be the lead of “The Bachelor” in Season 13, followed by Tayshia Adams, who split Season 16 with Clare Crawley. The latest before Lawson is Michelle Young, who was the Season 18 frontrunner.
Lawson explained how he still can’t believe he’s “The Bachelor”. “I’m still like that [processing it],” Lawson said on the show. “This time last year… I had graduated and then worked [as a child and family therapist] and got the chance to be on Zach’s season and be on The Bachelor, and now I’m on my journey.”
“So I think things are getting better,” he continued. “So it’s a lot, but it’s all interesting, and I’m happy and grateful for all these good things.”
He then said, “I’m very ready [for love]. I think I’m more prepared… I’m excited.”

Before filming began, Charity Lawson went on “Good Morning America” to discuss being the next “Bachelor.”
“It’s an indescribable feeling,” he said. “I am very honored and very excited. I still feel like I’m dreaming and processing the feeling. I’m really excited about what’s to come.”
When talking about her upcoming journey as “The Bachelorette,” Lawson acknowledged the challenges she’ll face, explaining, “I think it’s going to be challenging, but I think for me, I’m very open with my emotions, and I wear my heart in my arm, so I think if anything it’s going to get easier, but it comes with its challenges, and I know what it’s like, but I plan to stay open.”
Lawson also talks about what she looks for in a partner. “I feel like for me, I’m looking for someone who’s compassionate, so someone who’s really nice and treats other people well,” she said. “For me, that’s something I value and have in me, so I want that in my partner as well.”
Lawson added, “I also like to laugh and have fun, so I think a sense of humor is huge. Anyone who can come out with a good joke or two is a winner.
Charity Lawson’s season of “The Bachelorette” premieres Monday, June 26.
