Looks like the new “Barbie” movie is a shortcut to getting you in the mood and Cheryl Burke knows a thing or two about that!
After experiencing one of the most tumultuous years of her life, including finalizing her divorce from her husband, Matthew Lawrence, and leaving “Dancing with the Stars” after nearly three decades, the professional dancer has reflected on her younger self. The incident happened after she watched a live action of “Barbie,” a seemingly innocent encounter that set off a wave of emotion.

Burke was in the mood after she enjoyed the nearly two-hour film, which premiered on July 23, 2023. To fully express herself, she took to her Instagram feed to post a series of childhood images accompanied by text overlays.
While the first slide shows her wearing a blue dress with the words, “I want to take time to apologize to this girl,” the second features her in what appears to be a flower girl ensemble with the text, “To make her believe she’s not good enough. “
Other slides include an apology for telling his younger self “there’s something wrong with him,” “dimming his light,” “putting too much pressure on him,” and making him feel afraid of life and that. [sic] people.”

“After seeing @barbie, it took me inside and brought back memories of a young Cheryl who just wanted to enjoy her Barbie and feel free. As you know by now, I had some horrible things happen to me as a child. And that led young Cheryl down a path of fear and darkness. I’m sorry Cheryl for putting you through that.”

He added that he has set aside extra time to “reconnect” with his inner child and enjoy “quality time hanging out with the girl.” Concluding, “DWTS” encouraged his 732k followers, “Don’t forget that the inner light of a child is inside you all. ✨❤️.”
As expected, the superstar’s post sent waves of adoration through his fans, and the comments section was quickly flooded with outpourings of love, emojis and heartfelt messages. Earlier this week, Burke marked a milestone in his sobriety journey. According to The Blast, she uploaded a photo of her bare face, highlighting her freckles, to celebrate entering her sixth year without alcohol. The photo was followed by a lengthy caption, which began:
“It’s been 5 years since I started my recovery journey. As I entered my 6th year I realized I had found a new purpose that I never thought existed. The great thing about sobriety is that it’s not always a straight line of progress & like most things in life it comes with rough patches.”
He later shared how sobriety has had a profound impact on his life, bringing a “greater awareness” of his challenges and allowing him to see his loved ones, colleagues and friends in their true essence.
As the message continues, Burke candidly states that he has decided to let go of any lingering resentment or anger toward others and himself as he moves forward in life. The uncredited star of “Smallville” concluded:
“All in all, I now have a life and a relationship with myself that I didn’t know before. I attribute this transformation to God and my commitment to recovery.
