Justin Fields has added more fire to the ongoing Chicago Bears controversy.
While fans have scrambled to figure out why Alan Williams suddenly stepped down from his role as the Bears’ defensive coordinator, Fields has opened up about the team’s struggles. He candidly admitted to feeling “robotic and not playing like me” in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and seemed to blame coaching techniques for his poor performance.
Justin Fields Has Problems With Chicago Bears’ Coaching Style
While Fields is determined to fix the offensive struggles on his team, he has no problem airing the Bears’ somewhat dirty laundry in public.
The quarterback attended a press conference after his team’s game against the Buccaneers and opened up about how he intends to handle the upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He started:
“My goal this week is to say, ‘eff it’ and go out there and play football like I know how to play football. This includes thinking less and just going out there and playing instinctively, rather than saying so much information in my head and data in my head, and obviously just going out there and playing football. That’s when I play my best…when I’m out there playing free and being myself.”

According to the 24-year-old, one of the reasons he believed he would think too much during matches was the coaching he received. “You know, I thought I could be a coach. At the end of the day, they did their job when they gave me what to look at, but at the end of the day, I can’t think about it when the game comes,” Fields said.
He then added that he spends all week preparing himself, “and then when the game comes, it’s time to play freely at that point. Think less and play more.” The NFL star explained that while he doesn’t believe there are too many coaches influencing his game, he would do better if the approach were simplified.
He mentioned that, instead of trusting his instincts, the information overload caused him to over-process, ultimately slowing his performance on the field.
While some argued that Fields’ comments indicated some internal conflict, Eberflus, who took over as the Bears’ defensive coordinator following Williams’ resignation, was unmoved by the comments. Instead, he acknowledged that he and the University of Georgia alum are working toward the same goal. In his words:
“I just think he wants to be able to let it flow, let it go, let him be himself and play free, and I think that’s where he is right now. That’s what we want. We want him to do that. He feels presence in the pocket where he’s getting pressure and he sees places where he can work whether it’s running tackles, throwing the ball downfield or taking off and going.”
Fans Voice Concerns About Allegations Amid Williams’ Firing
MEGA
Williams’ name has repeatedly appeared in the headlines since the statement containing his resignation from the Bears was published. As reported by The Blast, the 53-year-old wrote:
“I took a step back to take care of my health and family. I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Chicago Bears, a storied NFL franchise with a rich history. I appreciate the NFL shield and all it stands for and after taking some time off to address my health, I plan to get back and coach again.”
Despite explaining he made the move for his health and family, fans were understandably confused when speculation about his home being raided by the FBI surfaced online. Since an answer from Bear was not forthcoming, someone shared his thoughts via X, writing:
“The Bears haven’t said anything about Alan Williams and it’s been HOURS since the news of his departure makes me suspicious again. Then again, this is a Bear. They can’t do PR for shit.”
“The Chicago Bears should provide some clarity on the Alan Williams situation soon. It doesn’t sound very good at all,” a second fan stated, while a third wondered:
“Bro is there like a huge bot army going on with the Chicago Bears right now? Every aggregator is posting about Alan Williams’ home and workplace being raided but I can’t find a single legitimate source about any places being raided??”
Claims about Williams’ space being raided were eventually dropped by his attorney Andrew M. Stroth, who told Courtney Cronin, “I just want to set the record straight that Coach Williams has some health challenges and some family issues that he’s dealing with and he thought it was the right time to step back and address those issues.”
