On January 27, 2020 evening, it was documented by ABC News that 11-year-old Gannon Stauch was reported missing from his home in Colorado Springs, by none other than his stepmother Letecia Stauch. About two months later, Letecia was arrested and charged with her murder. Fast forward to April 2023, the Letecia trial has begun and it is expected to last six to eight weeks. At this point, Letecia faces a total of 13 charges including first degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, and tampering with evidence.
Lately, in the midst of court proceedings, Letecia’s younger brother, Dakota Lowry, also appeared, testifying against his own sister. So, in this writing, let us tell you who he is.
Meet Dakota Lowry, Brother of Letecia Stauch
On April 25, 2023, during the trial of Letecia Stauch, everyone in the courtroom witnessed how the emotional weight of Gannon’s murder overwhelmed Dakota Lowry as she testified against her half-sister.
Shortly after Gannon Stauch was reported missing in 2020, his Dakota saw Latecia carrying a heavy suitcase. At the time, he didn’t know that the missing boy’s body was stuffed inside the suitcase. Dakota also helped her sister move out of her Colorado home.
According to arrest affidavits, Letecia reported her stepson missing on January 27, the day she is also believed to have killed the boy.
Dakota Lowry’s testimony
So, on the day of her testimony, Dakota Lowry recounted how in the days after Gannon disappeared, she and her mother, Debra S Locklear, 59, helped Letecia move her belongings out of the Colorado home. On February 1, 2020, she said she was helping her sister move all her belongings into Letecia’s rented Bajet van when she noticed she was struggling to carry one of her suitcases. Even without any clues, he said at the time that something didn’t “feel right” about the worn green suitcase, which seemed heavier than the others. When he offered to help her carry it, she remembers him telling her she didn’t need any help, adding that it was so heavy because it was full of softball stuff.
Dakota also testified that she did not remember seeing the suitcase when they helped her out of the house on January 30, 2020.
Later, on March 20, 2020, when Gannon’s body was found in a suitcase under a bridge near the hotel, Dakota confirmed that it was the same suitcase she saw Letecia struggling to carry earlier in February.
Before Dakota started telling all this in court, Tuesday morning, she started sobbing and yelling “Why Tecia?”. This caused a brief break as the juror was escorted out of the courtroom to give him time to compose himself.
The day before, Dakota’s nephew/Letecia’s daughter Harley Hunt had taken the stand in her mother’s murder trial. He also testified against him.
Where Is Dakota Lowry Now?
Now, it seems Dakota Lowry is back to her normal life.
His sister, while behind bars, continued to plead not guilty by reason of insanity. Meanwhile, her husband Al Stauch, father of the late Gannonhusband, separated from her in March 2020.
