“In Living Color” Star Stands Up For Dave Chappelle And Claims He Freed The Comedian
Damon previously indicated he had his back on Dave Chappelle, given the criticism Chappelle received for transphobic jokes made in his Netflix special “Closer.” The Blast shared that the “SNL” alum was asked to voice his opinion on the creation, and he sang praises for Chappelle for giving comedians their voices back.
He said, “I feel like Dave is freeing slaves. Comedians, they’re slaves to PC culture, and he’s just, you know, as an artist, he’s van Gogh, cut off his ears. He’s trying to tell us it’s okay.”
In the creation, Chappelle’s joke revolves around a transgender friend with whom he unexpectedly bonds. There are also some jokes, especially about transgender people who can’t do everything, including give birth.
Still, Damon believes the fellow comedian’s actions are a form of courage and may encourage other comedians to start telling the jokes they really want to tell. He also pointed out that people need to have a more important discussion about being restricted to say what they are told rather than what they want to avoid being overruled.
