Decorated Army vet says he was duped into murdering old flame’s husband: ‘I became her weapon’

He was played – or so he said.

A prominent US Army veteran wants Texas Governor Greg Abbott to end his 62-year sentence for killing the husband of his high school sweetheart in 2020 — claiming he lied to her about being a victim of violent domestic abuse.

Darrin Lopez, 51, who was convicted in July of shooting dead 49-year-old Jamie Faith, said he saw himself on a “mission” – just like when he was in the military – to save Jennifer Faith’s life only to find out afterwards. he had cheated on her, NBC’s “Date Date” reported Friday.

“I became his weapon. I understand that,” Lopez said.

The divorced killer first made his unfortunate connection through LinkedIn with an old flame during the pandemic when he was feeling lonely on his farm outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

They began communicating, and Lopez said he fell in love with Jennifer Faith, 51, all over again.

A speech therapist, and her husband, an IT director with American Airlines, have been together for 15 years and have a teenage daughter.

Lopez told “Dateline” it wasn’t her plan to hurt their marriage but that Jennifer Faith told her that her husband had violently abused her and emailed her about the alleged injuries — which were later found to have been staged.

Darrin Lopez, the man found guilty of Jamie Faith’s slaying in 2020, spoke to “Dateline” about the murder and his relationship with the slain father’s wife, Jennifer.NBCJennifer and Jamie Faith had been married for 15 years when he took over the former school fire high school Darrin Lopez and tricked him into killing her husband.ABC 8

In addition, Lopez said that Jennifer Faith told her that her husband knew about their ongoing conversations and had become angry. She sent Lopez a copy of a text message purporting to be from Jamie Faith that threatened to sexually assault her, and also to drown herself.

The text prompted Lopez to get in his pickup and drive 10 hours from Nashville to Dallas.

“If I don’t do something, he’s going to die,” Lopez said.

Lopez opened fire on the couple as they walked their dog near their home on Oct. 9. 2020. He fired nine shots, with three bullets hitting Jamie Faith’s head. In an attempt to make the murder look like a robbery, he took Jamie Faith’s wedding ring, punched Jennifer Faith and tied her hands.

Lopez then fled the scene in his truck and drove home, tossing the stolen wedding ring out his window somewhere in Arkansas.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Faith claims the killer approached from behind and she didn’t know.

Lopez was arrested in January 2021, and Jennifer Faith a month later.

The killer’s attorney, Juan Sanchez, told “Dateline” that it took him six months to make his client aware that Jennifer Faith made the allegations.

Lopez said he was devastated to learn that Jennifer Faith, who once called him “his soulmate,” had lied.

“When I got arrested, I went to jail really believing I saved Jennifer and her daughter,” Lopez told “Dateline.”

“The thought never crossed my mind that he could use me this way. I believe he loves me.”

He helped prosecutors “get rid of him,” he said.

In February 2022, Jennifer Faith pleaded guilty and was later sentenced to life in prison.

Lopez believes that his work helping prosecutors convict him was not adequately understood during his sentence, where he faces five years to life.

“Because of me they can go to him and, ‘Say, Darrin is going to testify against you,'” he said.

“The jury doesn’t know how much help I gave.”

However, one juror, who declined to be identified, said, “These innocent people have died because of the verdict.”

But Lopez hopes Gov. Abbott will help commute his sex-decade sentence after the Republican vowed to pardon Army Sgt. Daniel Perry, who was convicted of killing a Black Lives Matter protester in Austin in 2020.
