After shutting down rumors of their engagement, Demi Lovato had only the sweetest things to say about her boyfriend of nearly a year, Jordan Lutes, professionally known as Jutes.
Although the pair haven’t headed down the aisle yet, their relationship seems to be thriving as usual, with Lovato recently confirming it, much to the delight of her fans.
Demi Lovato And Jutes Were Friends For A Few Months Before Dating
In a recent chat on SiriusXM touching on the 30-year-old singer’s latest documentary “Child Star,” Lovato opened up about her relationship, revealing how it all started as a friendship.

When asked if she was still in a relationship, Lovato happily exclaimed, “we are,” prompting the interviewer to talk about her obsession with lovers who look “cute” and seem “so happy.”
“It’s like I think you’re like a friend before, I think [is] like the root of any good relationship,” commented the host. With that, the “Skyscraper” vocalist recounted how the two of them initially became friends before turning to romance.
“Well, we became friends first. We were friends for a few months, and then we decided to start dating, and after that, we told each other how we felt.”
Lovato continued, “It was kind of a mutual thing. Like we were texting, and he said something, and I was like, I took it one way, and he was like, okay, if you take it one way, then I know you like me.
Luckily, he accepted it “that way,” and “she was like, ‘Okay, got it!'” which led to their relationship. It’s certainly a decision neither of them has ever regretted, as the “This Is Me” singer admitted, “I’m so happy, and he’s my best friend.” He also mentioned that he likes her music, including his latest album, “Revamped,” and she feels the same way about his music, saying, “I’m a big fan of his music, too.”
Last month, the couple sparked engagement rumors after the “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum revealed that she used her first name after going public as they. During the interview, Lovato shared that it was “really exhausting” making people aware of why she identifies with the pronouns “they/them”.
Using a plain black background, she wrote “If I’m engaged I’ll announce it!!!!!,” adding, “I went to say favorite and got it wrong and said boyfriend instead.” Lovato later assured fans that she is “still obsessed” with the fellow music star and that he remains “both my favorite person and boyfriend.”
The ‘Will & Grace’ Actress And Her First Boyfriend Met While Working On Her Eighth Album
While August 2023 will mark one year since Lovato and Jutes became a couple, die-hard fans of the couple will know that this month also marks one year since they first met.
In July 2022, the two met while working together on the actress’ eighth studio album, “Holy Fvck,” which Jutes reflected on via Instagram, highlighting the album’s second single, “Substance.” “Materials by @ddlovato are out now!! One of my favorite songs I ever produced,” he said at the time.
“When I was asked to stop and write for this session, I remember, how am I supposed to do a Demi Lovato session? Only to show up and realize she’s doing one of the hardest rock projects I’ve ever heard,” added the indie artist.
It’s “obviously a milestone” for the musician, and he feels blessed to be a part of something he loves. Lovato responded to the post with a note of appreciation, admitting that Jutes “killed the session” while she looks forward to future projects with him.

The following month, they sparked romance rumors when they continued to communicate on social media and made several public appearances together, including an outing in New York. That same month, sources revealed that the “Glee” alum is “very happy” in a “healthy relationship” two years after ending her engagement to Max Ehrich.
The Jutes then opened up about their relationship on what would have been Lovato’s 30th birthday by writing the most touching tribute, calling her “everything,” and expressing her undying love.
