In a recent interview with guardian, Dolly Parton talks about her determination to stand up to anyone who tries to dictate her choices, including her clothes.

Parton admitted that her father and preacher grandfather, the Reverend Jake Owens, disapproved of her fashion sense and even used physical discipline over her clothing. However, despite the pain it caused, Parton stated that she was “willing to pay for it.”

The 77-year-old admitted his sensitivity, saying, “I don’t like being disciplined – it hurts my feelings to be scolded or whipped or whatever. But sometimes only a part of you is willing, if you want something bad enough, to do it.”

“But as far as touring goes, I think those days are a bit behind me… you have to go so long on tour to make it productive and prosperous, and that’s a lot of time at my age – I don’t get years to waste,” he said.
