Rappers Drake and 21 Savage have found themselves in legal trouble following the release of their new joint album “Her Loss.” The album, which dropped earlier this month, is the first collaboration album between the rap stars after years of working together on singles.
Both artists were sued by Vogue Publisher Condé Nast, who claimed that the album’s promotional campaign infringed on the magazine’s trademark. They also said the two’s actions caused “widespread confusion.”
The company is now demanding four million dollars in damages, or most of the album’s sales.

Condé Nast Sues Drake And 21 Savage

On Monday, Condé Nast, also known as Advance Magazine Publishers Inc and publisher of Vogue magazine, filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court against Drake and 21 Savage just days after the pair released their collaborative album “Her Loss.”
The company claims in its lawsuit that the rappers are exploiting the brand name to advertise their latest project without permission.
Per guardian, Condé Nast’s claims refer to the duo’s famous promotional campaign for the album, which required them to make fake copies of Vogue with themselves on the cover.

The magazine’s issue, which appeared to be legitimate, was distributed on the streets of cities such as Miami and New York and became popular on social media. Drake also posted an image of the cover on his social media platforms.
The company also claimed that the act gave the impression that Drake and 22 Savage would be featured on an upcoming Vogue cover.
“All this is false. And none of it has been authorized by Conde Nast,” the suit reads.
Condé Nast Previously Issued Cease And Desist To Drake

Per Page Six, Condé Nast previously sent a cease and desist to the “Certified Lover Boy” songwriter and the “Bank Account” poet, informing them to end their “unauthorized use of the Vogue trademark [and] stop any distribution” for the fake magazine They also asked the couple to issue a public statement clarifying that the magazine is fake to end the “widespread confusion” it has caused since it hit the headlines.
Elsewhere in the suit, it is stated that the fake publication also used the image of long-time Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, adding that the veteran journalist did not provide Drake and 21 Savage.
“Anna Wintour did not authorize the use of her image to promote the Defendant’s Album,” the court documents allege.
In addition to creating a fake Vogue publication, the promotional campaign for “Her Loss” also included a Howard Stern interview, an NPR “Tiny Desk” appearance and an “SNL” performance, all of which were faked using masterful editing and impressive set design.

In the meantime, the defendants have yet to issue any public response to the lawsuit filed against them, suggesting they are concentrating entirely on building buzz around their album. It is also unclear when there will be a court hearing on the case.

Drake And 21 Savage’s New Album ‘Her Loss’
