These last years, the world of Fashion gave us some of the most original designs we have ever seen. Before, Fashion was an unstoppable cycle with the same clothes leaving the scene and returning a few years later, only to leave the scene again and return later again. For example, it can be a leather jacket or a Nike Dunk for shoes.
But some extraordinary talents like Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, and recently Virgil Abloh or Kanye West arrived in the Fashion industry. These last two have changed clothes and shoes forever, putting streetwear, only seen as a “hood” clothing style, at the forefront of the luxury fashion industry.
This was achieved thanks to the designs of Off White and Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton but also thanks to Kanye West and his Yeezys, especially the Yeezy Slides and Foam Runners. The latter two are used to wearing open shoes in any city, and not only in hot places. But guess what, the evolution never stops because Drake has decided to design a more original and weird slide than Kanye West’s last design. He has decided to release Scuba Diving Fins… The ones you can wear on the street?
Why This Scuba Slide Isn’t Crazy
Actually, these are not Scuba Diving Fins, these are slides like the Yeezy Slides but with a very specific design that can remind us of these fins that you can use for scuba diving. Although it’s inspired by Nike Swim Fins, you can’t seem to swim with these Scuba Slides. Then, what’s the point? Who wants to wear it on the street?

Well, more people than you might think, and there are two main reasons for that. The first is the fact that this was designed by Drake and NOCTA. As an influencer and now an excellent designer, Drake is followed by many fashion lovers and everything he creates is interesting now. An example is the Hot Step Air Terra which is loved by shoe addicts even though it is very unusual and original. Even the simple Air Force 1 with a little writing from Drake sold out quickly just because It was NOCTA, and designed by Drake.
The second reason is the fact that this design is special, very special. It is something we have never seen before and all fashion lovers and shoe addicts will want to get help on this crazy slide. And if you doubt it, just remember the release of the first Yeezy Foam Runners. They are mocked all over social media. People compare it to Alien shoes or kitchen tools. And finally, you know the deal, these all sold out within 1 minute of each drop, with only a small chance of getting one each time.
Finally, Nike wants to bury their recent backlash with the slightly scandalous Nike Calm Slide. Accused of plagiarism by sneaker addicts, because these look like Yeezy Slides, Nike may want to own their original slides in an increasingly competitive open shoe market.
Internet Makes Fun of Drake’s Scuba Slide
Of course, even though people ended up wearing these Drake Fins, they first mocked them, like every time something too original is announced. And It’s normal, It’s too shocking not to react to it. The first thing that made us laugh was the comparison with the famous Scuba Sam from the Movie ‘Big Baddy’ released in 1999.

In this scene, Adam Sandler who plays Sonny Koufax wears a scuba suit to try to convince Julian to study. This scene is cult, meme, and hilarious, but seeing it in the context of this new Scuba Slide is even better. People are even calling Drake’s new creation ‘The Scuba Steve’s”.
Another comment that is more interesting than funny is from @sofa_king_sic who tells us with a simple photo that these are not slides but Scuba Fins.

Well, It’s really possible, but it seems the fact that these new NOCTA slippers are meant for the street has been confirmed. But let’s see, maybe it’s fake news and it’s very possible that people buy it just to flex during scuba diving sessions.
