Actress Emily Blunt has clarified her statement about the advice Tom Cruise gave her on the set of “Edge of Tomorrow,” saying people are taking it out of context.
The stars starred alongside each other in the sci-fi film in 2014, with Blunt playing Rita Vrataski and Cruise playing Major William Cage. Other actors in the film include Brendan Gleeson, Bill Paxton, Charlotte Riley, and others.
While there has been speculation about a possible sequel for the hit film, Blunt has previously revealed that it is unlikely. Among his most incoming projects, the actor will star in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”. He will also be in “Pain Hustlers” with David Yates as the director of the Netflix film.

Blunt spoke to E! News to explain the story he told about his time on the set of “Edge of Tomorrow” with Cruise. She said the actress had told her to “stop being mad” when she started crying on set because she felt uncomfortable in her clothes.
In her statement, Blunt revealed that the story was taken out of context and that something she thought was very funny was made to seem offensive to her. “It’s funny that it’s being spun as something that offends me. Its not. I share the story lightly as Tom intended.”
“The Quiet Place” actress refers to Cruise as her close friend and someone she idolizes. Blunt also revealed that while working together, the “Mission Impossible” star was “a gem to me.” She called him a “p****” apparently in an attempt to make him laugh, and she did. According to the actress, the memory was something they laughed about until today.

In the Dec. 12 episode of the “SmartLess” podcast, Blunt reflected on her time filming “Edge of Tomorrow” and her struggles on set. Before starring in the film, the actor was mainly involved with the rom-com genre, and as a result, the whole process was completely new to him.
She remembers wearing a “big suit” that weighed so heavily on her that she started to cry. Blunt revealed that she trained extensively before filming and was involved in gymnastics, sprinting, Israeli martial arts, and, most importantly, weights. This was all useless for him because, according to the actor, he could barely move in the suit.
“We had to wear these big suits, which I thought would be great if we had CGI, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way,” Blunt told podcast hosts Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett.
He continued, “When you hear the word ‘tactile’, you think it sounds nice and comfortable. There is nothing comfortable about this suit. It was like 85 pounds. It’s very heavy,” he added. “The first time I put it on, I started crying, and [Cruise] don’t know what to do.”

Amidst her breakdown, Blunt revealed that she told Cruise, her co-star at the time, that she wasn’t sure she could go through with the shoot. “I said, ‘I’m kind of freaking out about the whole shoot,'” the actor recalled.
The “Mission Impossible” star was reportedly at a loss for words with Blunt in tears but eventually gave her an answer that shocked her out of her emotions. Blunt said, “I was like: Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot,’ and I started crying. ‘I’m just kind of freaking out about the whole shoot.'”
“He literally stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he said, ‘Come on, stop being like that, OK?'” Blunt revealed that she was amused enough by his comment that he laughed, and they ended up make it through.

During the “SmartLess” podcast, Blunt revealed that while doing some stunts on the wire, something went wrong, resulting in some lingering injuries. The actor injured his collarbone and ribs, and it continues to this day. He also dislocated his thumb and nearly broke his nose, but a doctor on set put two fingers in to move the cartilage back.
In 2021, Blunt cleared up rumors about a possible “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel, revealing that the film was too expensive and no one knew what would happen. However, he admitted that he has read good scripts for the project if it wants to move forward.
While speaking with Howard Stern last year, Blunt said per CinemaBlend, “Honestly, I think the movie is too expensive. Yeah, I don’t know how we’re going to do it. I think it’s hard to coordinate everyone’s schedule.” He added that while everyone, including the director, would love a sequel, they need to “know what’s going on with the industry.”
