The family of pregnant Texas teenager Savanah Soto and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra, who were shot to death in a drug deal gone bad, say this week’s arrest in the killing has given them “some peace” — but they believe that seeking the death penalty is the only way to carry out justice for their murder.
Guerra’s father, Gabriel Guerra, and Soto’s brother, Jordan Corona, urged prosecutors in interviews Thursday to seek the death penalty for Christopher Preciado, 19, and his father, Ramon Preciado, 53, who are charged in the murder.
“For me, there is no other option that can be considered justice if we don’t do it [the] death penalty,” Guerra told KENS 5.
San Antonio police arrested the father and son duo Thursday, more than a week after 18-year-old Soto and his 22-year-old girlfriend were fatally shot in their car.
Soto was reported missing after missing a scheduled induction date. The couple’s unborn child also died in the shooting.

Christopher is charged with first degree murder while Ramon faces a charge of abuse of a corpse, with more charges pending, according to police, who said the incident “appears to be a narcotics deal gone bad.”
Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said more charges may be filed against Christopher in the death of baby Fabian.

“Under Texas law, an unborn child is included in the definition of a person. Therefore, Christopher Preciado can be charged with an additional charge of mass murder for the death of baby Fabian,” Gonzales said in a statement, NBC News reported.
“The District Attorney’s Office will await the filing of a complete case investigation to thoroughly review the facts and make the appropriate charge decision,” he added.

Christopher allegedly confessed to killing the young couple but claimed he had acted in self-defense, according to police.
The 19-year-old allegedly told investigators that Soto and Guerra had driven to his home to sell him marijuana when Guerra pulled out a gun, the arrest affidavit said.
Christopher claims he wrestled Guerra for a gun, shooting him and his pregnant girlfriend in the process. – but police have said that story is inconsistent with the gunshot wounds to the head the couple suffered.
Christopher’s father allegedly helped move the body, and the man was allegedly captured on surveillance video at the scene.

“Nothing is going to bring my sister back,” Corona told KENS. “Nothing will fix the heartache we have to go through.”
“My nephew, Fabian, his mother and father, they are all addicted to marijuana?” he added.
Corona told NBC News that she had no knowledge of her sister’s involvement in narcotics, adding that she did not use drugs and was sensitive to secondhand smoke.
“My sister is a little sweetheart. She doesn’t like being around smoke,” Corona told the news outlet.

“I think it was just one of those wrong place, wrong time situations. He didn’t care about that kind of thing [drugs]. Of course, her boyfriend is the way she is, but as far as she is [involvement with drugs]no,” he added.
Corona said he was concerned about Soto’s relationship with Guerra, who was arrested on Christmas Day in 2022 for beating him.
A doorbell camera captured him kicking the teenager in the face after she yelled at him: “F—k you bitch, you betrayed me,” according to a police report shared with NBC News.
Guerra punched Soto “in the face with a closed fist 4 times on the left side of the face,” according to a report cited by the network.
The boyfriend pleaded no contest to assault causing bodily injury to a domestic partner and was placed on probation, NBC News reported, citing court records.
“It was an abusive relationship. We don’t approve of it,” Corona told the outlet. “We tried to tell him, ‘That’s not what you need.’ Of course, at that age, you feel like you know everything. Love is powerful at that age. We cannot separate them.”

Corona said that the family was encouraged by the arrest.
“It gives us some peace to know my little sister’s family, that the person who killed them, is headed for justice,” Corona told NBC News. “Nothing will fill the void without him and my niece.”
