Buckingham took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute to his Fleetwood Mac bandmate McVie, who recently died aged 79.

In his post, the 73-year-old singer and guitarist expressed his deep sadness at his death after years of being close colleagues and friends.

“Christine McVie’s sudden passing is heartbreaking. Not only were she and I part of the magical Fleetwood Mac family, to me Christine was a musical partner, a friend, a soulmate, a sister,” a handwritten letter of Buckingham’s tribute read.

The lead vocalist also wrote a message for grieving fans, saying that his co-singer will live on through the various projects he has contributed to during his life.

He continued, “For more than four decades, we helped each other create a beautiful body of work and a lasting legacy that continues to resonate today. I feel very lucky to have known him. Although he will be greatly missed, his spirit will live on through that body of work and legacy.”

“I didn’t know she was sick… until late Saturday night,” Nicks shared on her page. He then talks about wanting to sing a song to his bandmates, which is no longer possible due to his death. Nicks later penned a lyrical snippet of Haim’s 2019 song “Hallelujah” as part of her tribute.

“I had a best friend, but she’s come true / That I wish I could see now / You always remind me that memories will last / This arm is outstretched,” the singer wrote before adding, “See you on the other side, my love. Don’t forget me — Always, Stevie.”

McVie died on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, after a short illness. Although there is no exact explanation of the illness, the singer died with his loved ones, as confirmed in a post from the family.

The writing reads,” He is in the company of his family. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this very painful time, and we want everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of a remarkable human being, and a respected musician who was universally loved. RIP Christine McVie.”

Before his death, McVie served as vocalist and keyboardist with Fleetwood Mac. He wrote most of the songs on the group’s hits and also released several solo projects.
