Food Network’s Star Michael Chiarello Taking Weight Loss Drug Similar To Ozempic At Time Of Death

A coroner’s report shed more light on the circumstances surrounding Michael Chiarello’s death, showing the celebrity chef took a weight-loss drug — similar to Ozempic — in the weeks leading up to his death.

According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Chiarello’s ex-wife, Eileen Gordon, and his girlfriend Kellie Martin were interviewed by investigators about using another version of the popular weight loss drug, Ozempic.

It is believed that the injection drug may have contributed to the death of the “Food Network” star.

According to the coroner’s report we obtained, Chiarello’s legal wife, Gordon, and her partner Martin were interviewed by Napa County Coroner’s Office deputies to determine the cause of their loved one’s death.

“Eileen is not sure about the drug use revealed by the deceased because she and the deceased have been separated for several years. He knew he was known to drink alcohol, but did not know if he was a heavy drinker,” the deputy wrote about his meeting with Chiarello’s ex-wife.

The report continued, “He said the victim told him he was using a new weight loss drug called Ozempic or something similar. He understood that the drug was a diabetes drug that was recently found to be used as a weight loss drug. He knew Ozempic given by injection, but do not know how it is given to a dead person.”

Gordon explained to deputies that he was concerned for the “Good Life Network” host’s well-being when he learned of his drug use. According to her, her friend’s husband “had an allergic reaction to the medicine.” Gordon revealed that “her friend’s husband developed a rash and swelling and the symptoms persisted for over thirty days.”

The Coroner’s Office stated that Gordon was not sure if the weight loss drug had anything to do with Chiarello’s death, but he wanted to make sure the Coroner’s Office knew about it.

However, the celebrity chef’s girlfriend, Kellie Martin, who was with him at the time of his allergic reaction began to explain more about the suspected drug.

“Kellie said she and the deceased lived together in Yountville. I asked Kellie about the deceased’s disclosed drug use, and she said she did not know how much or what the deceased used,” the document reads. “She said the victim hid drug use from him. He also said he was not sure if the deceased had any friends or colleagues who used illegal drugs.”

When asked about Chiarello’s allergic reaction, Martin reportedly told a Deputy Coroner’s Office that he was unaware the famous culinary personality had any allergies while they were together. He was also questioned about whether the “Tra Vigne Cookbook” author had any recent medical or dental procedures that required local anesthetic, and Martin said his late partner had not done any to his knowledge.

However, when asked about his use of drugs such as Ozempic, he told deputies, Chiarello “does not take Ozempic, but uses a similar drug called Tirzepatide.” Martin revealed that the “Food Network” star takes injections of the drug once a week, but she does not know the last time she took it before her death.

“As far as he knows, he has not taken the medicine for the past two weeks. Kellie told me the deceased had been taking Tirzepatide for about three months,” the deputy wrote.

The document continued, “I researched Tirzepatide and found that the brand name of the drug is Mounjaro. It is administered with a single-dose pen injector once a week. The company’s website lists common side effects such as: nausea; diarrhea; decreased appetite; vomiting: constipation: indigestion : and stomach ache.”

The deputy explained that Mounjaro’s website does not list other side effects. However, “The Mayo Clinic lists the following less common side effects: difficulty breathing or swallowing; fast heartbeat; stomach gas pain; heartburn; recurrent fever; skin itching, rash, or redness; stomach, full; swelling of the face, throat, or tongue; vomiting; and yellow eyes or skin.”

The coroner’s report also stated that Chiarello had cocaine in his system at the time of his death, confirming that several issues may have contributed to his death.
