Confirming reports have emerged regarding the cause of the tragic death of “General Hospital” actor Tyler Christopher.
The 50-year-old’s body was found last October in his San Diego apartment by one of his co-stars on the iconic medical show.
Tyler Christopher’s Death Was Ruled An Accident
The San Diego Medical Examiner revealed that Christopher died of positional asphyxia or suffocation due to “acute alcohol intoxication.”
The actor also suffers from coronary artery atherosclerosis, a disease caused by the buildup of plaque in the walls of the arteries that supply blood to the heart.
The actor was found unresponsive in his bedroom on October 31 by a friend who immediately alerted emergency services. His agent also released a statement confirming his death to news agencies and said:

Maurice Benard, who co-starred with her in the show, also expressed his sadness at the actor’s passing. After praising the 50-year-old for his talent and love for “bringing joy to his loyal fans,” Benard added:
“Tyler was a sweet soul and a good friend to everyone who knew him. Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who spoke openly about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcoholism.”
Christopher played the role of Nikolas Cassadine on the show, which ran from 1996 to 2015, and then appeared as Stefan DiMera on “Days of Our Lives” from 2018 to 2019 every FoxNews.
Inside The Life And Trials Of An Award-Winning Actor
Christopher is an accomplished actor who won a Daytime Emmy award for his role on “Days of Our Lives.” However, behind the flashing lights on set, the actor suffered from a substance use disorder that plagued his personal life in many ways.
The Blast shared that a few months before his death, the actor was arrested at Hollywood Burbank Airport in southern California, as he was found passed out and drunk near the American Airlines terminal by authorities.

He was also arrested in 2019 after he fell asleep in an Uber and urinated on himself. His run-ins with the law led to him being placed under the care of his sister, Susan Asmo Baker.
The actor also underwent craniotomy surgery after suffering a skull fracture when he hit his head in the bathroom after falling due to alcohol consumption. During his recovery in 2021, his sister filed for guardianship.
However, the actress accused her sister of blackmailing her in a Bloomberg interview three months before her death. She added that during her custody, Baker diverted $40,000 in repayments to her account to offset her own credit card debt, finance her move, and buy a MacBook for her son.
However, Baker denied the allegations, stating that Christopher would have died long ago if he had not been under her care.
Aside from the drama with her sister, the actress also has a rocky history with romantic relationships. He married actress Eva Longoria in 2002 and divorced in 2004. He later married again to ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo.
They separated in 2021 after welcoming two children, Greysun James Christopher and Boheme Christopher. After his arrest last May, Longoria expressed her concerns about her health and safety, claiming that Christopher is no longer the man she once married.
A source close to the actress said she is willing to give “Tyler any help he needs, including paying for a trip to rehab.” He was also reportedly worried that the actor would not be able to take care of himself, as the source added that having support means a lot to the actor.
