Gerard Butler Admits He ‘Almost Killed’ Hilary Swank On The Set Of ‘P.S. I Love You’

Hollywood star actors tend to have behind-the-scenes stories, and Gerard Butler just shared some really wild stories. The host-turned-actress recently admitted to almost killing her co-star Hilary Swank on the set of “PS I Love You.”

In the 2007 romantic drama, Butler starred as Gerry, the husband of Swank’s character Holly Kennedy. The actor recalled the accident that left the now 48-year-old man in hospital. He also remembers Swank being so worried that he cried.

The film directed by Richard LaGravenese is inspired by Cecelia Ahern’s 2004 novel of the same name. While Swank is currently expecting twins with her husband, Butler is focusing on her career and will star in the upcoming film “Plane.”

During an episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” “Last Seen Alive” actor recalls what it was like behind the scenes of “PS I Love You”. The 53-year-old also recalled an accident that occurred during a segment where he danced “like an idiot.”

He explained that Gerry, his character, was supposed to hit him in the face with a hanger clip while taking off his clothes. However, things went sideways when he lost control of the clip and instead hit Swank in the face.

“It’s stuck, it’s released [and] flew over my head, hit him on the head – cut his head off.”

Butler also noted that the hanger clip “cut her” and made Swank bleed. “You can also see the teeth [of the suspender].” Telling what happened next, he said, “He had to be taken to the hospital.” The “Greenland” actor, who feared for his co-star’s life, cried after the incident.

The “Tomorrow Never Dies” actress recalled sitting alone in the studio after the incident and crying. “I just sat there in my Irish [shamrock] boxers and my boots and a pair of socks, and I just cried.”

He also blamed himself for being too careless and hurting Swank, saying, “I hurt Hilary Swank. I almost averted his eyes, and I just made a fool of myself for two days.”

Butler especially felt bad about what happened because he really planned to make sure that his co-stars were safe.

The actor recalled telling the director that he wanted to put Swank’s feelings first during the filming of the film. “I remember saying to the director, I’m not going to think about myself in this movie, I’m just going to think about him, make sure he’s okay, he’s cool.”

In response to why he was so particular about Swank’s safety, he explained that that’s what his character would do for Holly. “That’s who it is [Gerry] is, and it makes the experience more enjoyable.” As upset as he was about the accident, he ultimately wanted to make sure that Swank was okay.

Butler also expressed how much she loved their scenes together and revealed that Swank was “cool” and “great to work with.”

Butler, on the other hand, recently starred in the action film “Plane,” which opens in the US on January 13, 2023.
