The name surprised her as much as the news that she welcomed a daughter.
Grimes shocked many when she revealed a few months after little Exa was born that she had a new baby. He eventually reveals his daughter was taken by a surrogate.

The daughter is the second child Grimes has with Twitter owner Elon Musk. His first child, a son, X AE A-XII Musk is 2 years old and was born in May 2020. There is also drama surrounding his son’s name. as you can see, it’s a bunch of letters that look like they don’t say anything to the naked eye.
However, they just call it “X”. The name they wanted was contested by the government who thought it was not a real name because it was unidentifiable and no one could pronounce it.
So that “X”. Grimes is an unconventional mom so it’s no wonder she wants her kids to have unusual names. In an interview with Vogue, she describes her parenting style as quite relaxed.
Grimes’ Kids Call Her ‘Claire’

Grimes revealed that being a mother did not come naturally to her. “Being a mother feels strange to say the least. For some reason, I didn’t recognize the word,” he admitted to Vogue. “He said Claire, but he didn’t say Mama.”
Grimes’ real name is Claire Boucher and her son doesn’t know her by anything else. “Maybe he likes it, can feel that I don’t like the word ‘mother.’ Which, I don’t even know why I don’t like him, because I respect… I can’t recognize him, strangely.”
For those confused by Grimes’ son’s name, she helped them out with a tweet. “X, an unknown variable ⚔️, Æ, my elf’s spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial Intelligence), A-12 = predecessor to the SR-17 (our favorite plane). It’s probably safe to say that “?” (or Question Mark… are we capitalizing because of that name now?) will also call his mother by her kingdom name. Are we to assume they call dad “Elon” or is he a strict parent?
Another unconventional parenting tactic that Grimes admits to is watching the odd movie with her son. “I’ve been watching ‘Apocalypse Now’ and filling in with my baby,” she said. “He is interested in radical art. Like, he really is, and I don’t think it’s problematic to engage with them on that level.”
