Details of the “horrific family tragedy” involving Katharine McPhee and David Foster have emerged.
New reports claim the power couple’s son’s nanny has died suddenly, prompting McPhee to pull out of their tour together in Asia and return to the United States. The “American Idol” alum previously informed his fans about the family tragedy in a statement posted on social media.

While it remains unclear whether Foster and McPhee’s son Rennie was in Asia with them when they had the family emergency, TMZ sources have claimed that the child’s nanny is the one who died. They also confirmed that the “Comfort Country” actor is already on his way to his home in California.

While waiting for more details about the situation to unfold, it should be noted that the singer-songwriter initially informed her Asian fans about her absence from the last two shows in Jakarta on Friday. At the time, he wrote via Instagram:
“Dear Jakarta fans, it is with a heavy heart that I announce I have to miss our last 2 shows of our Asian run. David and I have suffered a terrible tragedy in our family, and at least one of us needs to go home to our family.”
After pleading with fans to understand “how sorry” she is about the incident and how much she wants to “come back one day and perform” for them, she signed off, “Love, Katharine.” Sensing his pain through his words, his colleagues and fans immediately gathered and showed their support in the comments section.
While former actress Linda Thompson wrote, “Sending you and David love, & hope all is well,” singer Nicole Scherzinger typed, “Sending my love and prayers to your family.” Additionally, fitness instructor Amanda Kloots added, “Sending you lots of love. I was thinking of you.”

In addition to his successful Grammy-winning music career, Foster is a devoted father of six children. Her journey as a parent began when she welcomed her first daughter at the age of 20. She later expanded her family by welcoming four more daughters.
Notably, the Canadian composer became a father to his first son and youngest child, who he shares with McPhee, at the age of 71 in 2021. Speaking about the experience of becoming a father again and re-embracing parental duties, the now 73-year-old highlights how age continued to give him wisdom that he wanted to pass on to his son.
As the “Nothin’ You Can Do About It” singer revealed, “I think I can offer Rennie one thing even though I won’t be here when he’s 50 or 40, or 30 maybe. I think I can offer he is wiser than me [73] years on this planet, and maybe that’s not a bad trade-off. I hope so.”
Elaborating on his desire to pass on the wisdom he’s gained from age to Rennie, Foster reveals that this perspective comes from living a part of his life without cultivating patience.
“I was impatient when I was young. I was arrogant and just moved. At this point in my life, it’s different again. Not better or worse, just different,” said the Grammy Award winner about the reality of the past and present.
However, the former Verve Records executive hinted that he really appreciates spending quality time with his son, stating, “I’m still working, I’m still traveling a lot, but maybe that time is a little more valuable to me because I’ve got more of a track behind me than the I have it in front of me now.”
