In the days since the nomination “snub” was revealed, many fans and stars have made statements about their thoughts on Gerwig and Robbie’s absence, including Hillary Clinton.

On X, there were mixed reactions to Clinton’s tweet, with some saying the message was a comparison to her loss in the 2016 US presidential election. Clinton was predicted to win the election at the time as she held the popular vote by a margin of 2.9 million. However, he ultimately lost to Donald Trump due to the electoral college system.
Many tweets criticized Clinton for her comments about the “Barbie” insult.
One of Jason’s Rants read, “Hillary Clinton is trying to make a ‘Barbie’ of herself. The narcissism is amazing, quite menacing.” Another wrote, “You know a little about expecting to win but failing, I expect.”
A third person commented under Clinton’s tweet, “’Barbie’ is a bad movie. Just because it makes a lot of money doesn’t make it good or a winner. Likewise, just because Hillary Clinton got a lot of votes doesn’t make her good or bad [a] President of the United States. Oppenheimer is a better movie. And Trump is the better candidate.”
However, there are also people who support Clinton and appreciate the tweet. One such comment read, “Like the movie, #HillaryBarbie won the popular vote.”

Gosling also issued a statement criticizing the Academy for recognizing “Barbie” without recognizing Gerwig and Robbie. He wrote, “There is no Ken without Barbie, and no Barbie movies without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for creating this historic, globally celebrated film.”
Gosling wrote that it was an “understatement” to say he was disappointed that neither of them were recognized and said both women “should be recognized alongside other very deserving nominees.” He also expressed his joy for the nomination of Ferrera and several artists whose work was recognized through various nominations.
For her part, Ferrera released a statement to People Magazine about her low-key attitude and her excitement to be a part of the film. It read, “Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie made history and raised the bar with ‘Barbie.’ The cultural and industrial impact they have achieved will be felt for generations, and I am very grateful to them for asking me to be a part of it.”

Aside from the “Barbie” star and Clinton, other big names in Hollywood also reacted to the Oscar snub and expressed their dismay. Michelle Yeoh, winner of the Best Actress category at the 2023 Oscars, talked about it during an appearance on the “Today” show Wednesday.
He said, “The only thing is, like, it’s very competitive out there, and there’s no guarantee because you’re not the only voter, you know? It’s rampant. Thank God this movie was nominated for Best Picture. But you think, ‘ How can you be nominated for Best Picture but not Best Director and not Best Actress?’”
Author Stephen King also tweeted about the snub, questioning why Gerwig, in particular, was passed over for a Best Director nomination, with the note, “Can that be true?”
He also expressed disapproval of the Academy’s selection process, saying, “Oscar nominations and moviegoing tastes have become almost divorced.”
