In an interview with E! news, Jerry Trainor expressed his deep admiration for Jennette McCurdy’s 2022 memoir “I’m Glad My Mother Died.”

The memoir gives fans an honest look at the challenges McCurdy faced during the original run of “iCarly,” including her battle with an eating disorder and the alleged abuse she suffered from her late mother, Debra McCurdy, who died of cancer in 2013.

During the conversation, Trainor revealed that she wasted no time digging into the memoir, eager to understand McCurdy’s journey. “I read it right away,” he said. “It’s heartbreaking, but it’s also brilliant and funny. I feel very proud that he can tell the truth.”

During the audition, Cameron expressed interest in signing McCurdy’s brother, Marcus, but cited McCurdy as uncharismatic. However, Debra, a devout Mormon, encouraged the child star to pray for Barbara’s acceptance and supported her participation in the agency.

As part of the deal, McCurdy was required to attend acting classes, a condition he disliked. At the age of six, he got his first job as a background actor. However, acting as his representative, his mother informed him that she would only take his salary and “needs”.

Another aspect of McCurdy’s childhood that she shares in her memoir involves her mother’s approach to personal hygiene. Until the age of 12, McCurdy described the rain as horrible because his mother would constantly bathe him. Debra went further, performing what she called a “breast and ‘front butt’ exam” on McCurdy, explaining that she was checking for possible cancerous lumps.

During this uncomfortable exam, McCurdy said she “usually just tried and thought about Disneyland while Mom was having the exam” and felt a “huge wave of relief” when the exam was over.

News in October, she shared her new perspective, stating, “I think just through writing the book I’ve gotten to a place where I think there might be a way to explore acting that doesn’t carry the baggage that I carry with me. for so long.”
