Iran warns of ‘another shockwave’ on Israel if Gaza strikes don’t stop

A top Iranian commander warned Israel on Tuesday that it would face “another shock wave” of attacks by militant groups if the country did not stop its relentless bombardment of Gaza.

The deputy commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Ali Fadavi, made the dire threat after an attack on a refugee camp killed a top Hamas commander.

“The shock of the opposition to the Zionist regime will continue until this ‘cancerous tumor’ is wiped off the world map,” Fadavi said, according to Iran’s Fars news agency.

Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, blamed the US for Israel’s counterattack on the enclave — as he called the attack a “massacre of Palestinians in Gaza.”

“Many of our intelligence reports show that the US is formulating policies during the Zionist regime and what is being done is controlled by US policy making. The US must take responsibility for this situation,” Khamenei said in his speech posted on X.

“No one can face the Muslims and the resistance forces if the Zionist regime’s crimes against Palestine continue. The bombing of Gaza must stop immediately,” Khamenei said while addressing a group of students in Tehran.

“The world is witnessing the genocide of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people in Gaza.”

The comments also came as airstrikes on Tuesday killed about 500 Palestinians in a Gaza City hospital overflowing with patients and displaced people, Hamas health authorities in the area said.

The attack on Al-Ahli al-Arabi hospital was the bloodiest single incident in Gaza since the war broke out on Oct. 7.

“There were several bodies that were dismembered and dismembered, bathed in blood,” Izzat El-Reshiq, a senior Hamas member, told Reuters.

The Israeli military has denied responsibility for the attack, saying military intelligence suggested the hospital was hit by a failed rocket attack by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad military group.

“The analysis of the IDF’s operational system shows that a series of rockets were fired by terrorists in Gaza, passing close to the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza at the time it was hit,” said a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces.

“Intelligence from various sources that we have in our hands indicates that Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failure of the rocket launch that hit the hospital in Gaza.”

Meanwhile, a separate Israeli attack killed dozens of civilians and at least one senior Hamas figure in central Gaza on Tuesday.

Ayman Nofal, the top commander in Hamas’ military wing known as the Al-Qassam Brigade, was taken out in an attack targeting the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, Hamas confirmed in a Telegram broadcast hailing him as a “martyr.”

Health authorities in Gaza say at least 3,000 people have now been killed and another 9,000 wounded on their side in 11 days of Israeli bombardment.

The latest attack comes as the US tries to convince Israel to allow the delivery of supplies to civilians, aid groups, and hospitals in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Tzahi Hanegbi, the head of Israel’s National Security Council, suggested late Tuesday that the influx of aid would depend on the return of some 200 hostages currently being held by Hamas.

“The return of hostages, which is sacred in our eyes, is a key component in any humanitarian effort,” Hanegbi said.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden is preparing to head to the region on Wednesday as he and other world leaders try to prevent the war from spilling over into a wider regional conflict.

Earlier on Tuesday, Jordan’s King Abdullah II shut down the prospect of allowing Palestinian refugees fleeing northern Gaza into his country or Egypt, calling it a “red line” – amid a diplomatic campaign to create a safe zone within the besieged enclave.

“There will be no refugees in Jordan and no refugees in Egypt,” the king said, adding that the humanitarian situation must be contained within Gaza and the West Bank.

“That’s a red line, because I think that’s a plan by some of the usual suspects to try and create a de facto issue on the ground.”
