Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations called out the organization for its failure to condemn Hamas’ “atrocities” while wearing a Nazi-era yellow star as a stark reminder of what happened in the past when “the world” was silent.
During a heated speech before the UN Security Council, Ambassador Gilad Erdan compared the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack to what his grandfather Chaim and his children endured when they were ripped from their lives and taken to Auschwitz by the Nazis.
“When the baby was sent to the gas chamber, the world remained silent. When their bodies were burned along with millions of other Jewish children, the world was silent,” Erdan said during Monday’s meeting.
“Today, after an innocent Jewish baby was burned alive, this Council is still silent. Some of you haven’t learned anything in the last 80 years.
“Some of you have forgotten why this body was established.”

The ambassador, along with his delegation, then issued a gold star similar to the one Jews were forced to wear by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust to “remind” the group why they were created in the first place.
“Just like my grandparents, and the grandparents of millions of Jews, from now on my team and I will wear the yellow star,” he told the Council as he stood and placed the star with the words “Never Again” on his chest.
Nazi Germany used the Star of David patch to identify Jews between 1939 and the end of World War II.

“We will wear this star until you wake up and condemn the atrocities of Hamas,” Erdan said.
During the speech, Erdan stated to the Council that the only solution sought by Hamas is a “final solution” and that the terrorist organization’s idea of peace will only be achieved with the elimination of Jews in Israel.
Erdan’s stern warning also came after angry protests by Israel after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “Attacks by Hamas do not happen in a vacuum.”
The emergency meeting was held at the request of the United Arab Emirates as tensions continued to rise across the war-torn region.

The ambassador also drew parallels between Adolf Hitler and Iran’s “bloodthirsty” Ayatollah Khamenei, saying his regime was the last of the Nazi regime and accusing the Islamic ruler of fueling increased violence against Jews.
“Instead of shouting ‘Sieg Heil,’ these radical Islamist Nazis shout, ‘Death to Israel! Death to America! Death to England!’” said Erdan.
He explained that the Ayatollah used the actions of his “death squads” such as “Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the Houthis, the Revolutionary Guards and other violent Jihads” to spread a “poisonous genocidal ideology with the world.”

“On the day of the massacre, he called for the destruction of Israel along with a video of Israelis running for their lives as his Hamas Einsatzgruppen killed them with machine guns,” the ambassador said of the Ayatollah.
The Eizengruppen – often referred to as mobile killing squads – were Nazi SS military outfits used by Germany to purge ethnic Jews and other people in mass shooting operations during the late 1930s through the end of World War II.
“If Hitler had a Twitter account, it would look the same as Khamenei’s,” he said.

Erdan went on to ambush the council with historical compassion, saying that if it had existed during the Allied effort to eliminate Nazi rule during World War II, the group would have focused on the German death toll rather than the killing of British civilians during the German blitzkrieg.
“This is where the world stood when the Nazis went on the rampage,” said Erdan.
“Exactly at the same moment! And then, too – the world is silent.”
Despite his call for the council to call for violence against Israel, Erdan assured the group and the world that Israel will continue to defend itself in the war against Hamas in Gaza.
“The nation of Israel is strong, we cannot be broken, and we are not going anywhere. Many are trying to destroy us, but we are here to stay,” he told the council.
“Israel will win, destroy Hamas and bring home the hostages.”
