WASHINGTON – House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer demanded on Thursday that President Biden explain why he got a $200,000 check from his brother on the same day James Biden received a similar transfer from a US hospital company by promising to use his “political connections” to find Eastern investors Middle.
Comer (R-Ky.) asked White House counsel Edward Siskel for details on what Biden associates say were loan repayments among relatives after vowing earlier Thursday to bring Biden relatives before his panel “soon” to explain the interactions president with their friends from countries like China and Ukraine.
“If Joe Biden personally loaned James Biden the amount that was later repaid via a $200,000 check, please provide the loan documents, including loan payments, loan agreements and any other supporting loan documentation,” Comer wrote to Siskel.
The chairman of the Oversight Committee has publicly mocked the six-figure check as loan repayment and wrote that there is no evidence that Joe Biden ever loaned his brother that amount — after Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said records show the loan occurred about two months before March 1, 2018, check.
“The White House has alleged that Joe Biden loaned James Biden $200,000, and this check is repayment,” Comer wrote to Siskel.

“Records obtained by the Committee show numerous large incoming transactions into the personal accounts of James and Sara Biden from various entities. Some records of these transactions may have obscured the identity of the actual payers, but there are no records in the Committee’s possession indicating that Joe Biden made large loan payments to his brother.”
Comer also asked for “relevant documentation and IRS filings” that could show whether there was indeed a loan.
The checks became public on Friday and were described by Republicans as damning evidence that Biden personally profited from his family’s influence peddling.
Democrats say it shows the president is a generous family member and say it is not evidence of wrongdoing.
James Biden “obtained” a $600,000 loan from financially beleaguered rural hospital provider Americore “based on claims that his last name, ‘Biden,’ could ‘open doors’ and that he could get major investments from the Middle East based on his politics. extension,” according to a court filing last year from the firm’s bankruptcy trustee.

It’s unclear what James Biden did to try to get investors, but the company said it never materialized.
Last year, the first brother agreed to pay back $350,000 to Americore to settle a lawsuit accusing him of helping to bankrupt the company — $250,000 less than he received.
“Whether it was a loan or not, James Biden’s March 1, 2018, check to Joe Biden accurately demonstrates one way he personally benefited from his family’s malign influence peddling his name and their access to him,” Comer wrote to Siskel.
“Although the transaction is part of a loan agreement, we are concerned that Joe Biden’s ability to recover funds depends on his brother’s cash on the Biden brand.”
Immigrants said in a podcast interview early Thursday that the $200,000 transferred to Joe Biden apparently came from Americore, which loaned James Biden $600,000 in two large installments starting in January 2018, because “he never had more than $6,000 in his personal checking account for months.”
Comer told host Chris Farrell that he plans to compel Biden’s relatives to testify “immediately” about his role in foreign business ventures and that his staff is reviewing additional subpoenaed bank records from first brother and from first son Hunter Biden – both frequently involve their powerful relatives in their foreign interests.
Comer wrote to Siskel, “If Joe Biden personally loaned James Biden an amount that was later repaid via a $200,000 check, please provide the loan documents.”
“The moment that everyone has been waiting for, for the Bidens to come in and have to answer these questions, is getting closer,” Comer told Farrell.
“We’re going to trace every source of the Biden family’s income, and then we’re going to bring them in and say, ‘How did you get this $3 million from China? How did you get this $1 million from Ukraine? What did you do to get $3.5 million from the Russians?’” Comer said.
“We can bring them in and ask them a few questions and they’ll say, ‘I don’t know. I do not know.’ Most likely, we will get a crack at them,” continued Comer.
“We can bring the Biden family on the first day and have a hearing, as you say, with Hillary [Clinton] on Benghazi and all that and really accomplished nothing. But what we’ve uncovered now, I mean, we’ve found criminal activity by multiple Bidens now. We have found where Joe Biden benefits financially.”
“We’re putting together a pretty good case, and I think we’re going to have some incredible questions for the Biden family to answer,” Comer said.

The White House did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
House Republicans launched an impeachment inquiry into Biden’s role in his relatives’ affairs last month, citing the 80-year-old president’s meetings and phone calls with Hunter and James Biden associates from China, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Russia and Ukraine, as well as with American allies.
“We are tracing all the wires. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, we’ll be able to have a chart to show where all the money Biden’s got is coming from and where it’s ending up,” Comer said.
The rare prosecution inquiry proceedings are led by tax-focused Oversight, Judiciary and Ways & Means committees.
In the past century, all such inquiries have led to presidents being impeached or resigned, though none of them have been convicted by the Senate, which maintains a two-thirds vote threshold for conviction and removal from office.
Newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) “has been very supportive of our work,” said Comer, who recently recalled having dinner with Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward, whose reporting with Carl Bernstein helped spur the Watergate impeachment inquiry into President Richard Nixon.
“[Woodward] said the difference [Watergate investigator] Howard Baker has, compared to what I have, is that Howard Baker is blessed with an inquisitive and aggressive press corps,” the Republican said.
“And he said, ‘You don’t have that.'”
