Jennette McCurdy may be returning to TV screens sooner rather than later!
The star stopped acting a few years ago and started writing, where she exposed the toxic environment in which she grew up and the Hollywood industry. Since then, she’s released a book and is ready to dive deeper into her career as an author, but she recently shared that she might start accepting acting jobs again, just for some reason.
Jennette McCurdy Teases Return to Acting
The child actress, who graced the Time100 Next Gala, dressed in an ’80s-inspired sequin bustier top, insists that despite all her previous experiences, her acting days are not entirely behind her. At first, McCurdy was open about quitting acting in 2018, then credited the release of her best-selling memoir for helping her reconsider the decision. In his words:
“I feel like just through writing the book I’ve gotten to a place where I think there might be a way to explore acting that doesn’t carry the baggage I’ve been carrying. Maybe if I write something for myself. I think that might be the only way I can try to explore it again”
Fans will recall that the “iCarly” star revealed in her memoir that part of the reason she got into acting and stayed was because she was her family’s main financial support. He also detailed his abusive relationship with his mother and the series’ unnamed creator.
McCurdy also joked that the only other way to get him back on TV is if he gets to work with Molly Shannon, who wrote his Time 100 Next list entry. The singer later revealed that he had just signed a deal on a second book which will be a novel but did not elaborate on that. Shannon’s tribute to McCurdy reads in part:
“We know Jennette McCurdy as a child star and comedian, but with her memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, the world realized she was also an incredible, brilliant writer who worked hard to get to the point where she could take action. his mother gets off the pedestal and gets real about her experience growing up with the abuse of a narcissistic parent. He had to find his voice to survive. And how loud that voice was!”
The 58-year-old Emmy-nominated actress also noted that the 30-year-old has put in a lot of work in therapy to process everything he’s been through, including his mother’s erratic behavior. She also mentions that she loves how fair he examines their relationship without mincing words and can’t stop recommending the book.
“Not That Far” Singer Talks Feeling Peace After Memoir
MEGA
In August, The Blast reported that the “Malcolm in the Middle” star opened up about how he now misses his mother and feels some peace after everything he’s been through. The memoir “I’m Glad My Mother Died” explores the toxicity, abuse and exploitation she faced in the industry and how her mother forced her to act at a very young age.
On “Anna Faris Is Unqualified” with popular veteran Anna Faris, the “Generation Love” singer expressed relief at being able to miss her mother and get closure from writing the book. He said:
“I think closure is difficult to achieve, if it can be achieved. But I think the book helped me. I think there are several attempts to find closure. Now, I can have this experience with my mom where I can miss her.”
McCurdy added that he was happy to be able to miss her without feeling angry, wanting to break things, or feeling complicated.
Speaking of the star’s memoir, the release got off to a good start by holding the top spot on the prestigious New York Best Seller list for eight weeks. McCurdy took to her Instagram to thank everyone who helped make it happen.
He posted a screenshot of the page on the publication where the list appeared in the picture. She captioned it, “thank you so much for making I’m Glad My Mom Died the #1 New York Times bestseller for eight weeks in a row!! I’m so grateful for all of you and I’m so happy that you continued with – said that.”
