Actor Jensen Ackles, who serves as an executive producer on “The Winchesters,” The CW Network, and Warner Bros. is being sued by a crew member on “The Winchesters” who has accused the studio of neglecting safety measures during hazardous weather conditions.
Last year, “The Winchesters” was filming in Louisiana when production was halted by heavy rain, according to a complaint filed by first assistant camera operator Bryan DeLorenzo, filed last Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court. DeLorenzo said he voiced complaints about set security but was told to continue filming, and was later struck by lightning.
The lawsuit accused the production of negligence and asserted that the studio violated safety rules regarding the time production must be shut down if lightning struck within a certain distance of where they happened to be filming at the time.

According to court documents, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Bryan DeLorenzo insisted that production was halted due to numerous weather delays. He claims that director John Showalter allegedly switched scenes to be shot in the rain to avoid any delays and told the crew to continue filming, even though DeLorenzo felt it was unsafe to do so.
The complaint states: “During ten minutes of this conversation, Plaintiff was standing next to the camera when a loud ‘boom’ occurred.” DeLorenzo claimed that he “saw a bright white light and then lightning struck him, knocking him unconscious.” He then woke up in the emergency room.

According to the lawsuit, production must be shut down immediately if lightning strikes within 6 miles of the film set. Crew members reportedly had to wait at least thirty minutes after the lightning passed to resume production. The lawsuit cites several security procedures on “The Winchesters” that the cameraman felt were violated.
A few days before he was allegedly struck by lightning, DeLorenzo said that he spoke with security officials on set and production coordinators about what to do when trying to film in inclement weather. According to court documents, they allegedly told him to buy lightning detection products and weather apps.
First assistant camera operator Bryan DeLorenzo is now suing Warner Bros., The CW Network, and executive producer Jensen Ackles, who starred in both “Supernatural” and “The Winchesters” for compensatory and punitive damages for physical injury, pain and emotional distress, among others. Jensen Ackles has not addressed the lawsuit on social media, although he did reach out to X, formerly known as Twitter, earlier this year to announce that “The Winchesters” would not be getting a second season.
‘The Winchesters’ Will Not Return For Season 2
To all of you who watch, follow, and support this story, THANK YOU. And to all those who bring this show to life…I couldn’t be more proud of what we all do together. But as they say…timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with industry… pic.twitter.com/qqDD9WC0KA

After The CW decided not to give “The Winchesters” a second season, Ackles tried to shop “The Winchesters” to other networks without much success. In June 2023, he thanked “Supernatural” fans for watching and admitted that there were no plans for any more spin-off shows due to the writers’ strike.
“To all of you who watch, follow, and support this story, THANK YOU. And to everyone who brought this show to life…I couldn’t be more proud of what we did together,” he said tweeted at that time.
“But as they say…timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with an industrial strike…well…it’s unfortunate timing,” he added. “Sleep well dear @WinchestersOnCW …until we meet again. Somewhere by the side of the road.”
